Hernia in children, inguinal hernia in newborns

Inguinal hernia is the bulging of the abdominal cavity organs. This disease is the most common in pediatric surgery and is not subject to conservative treatment. Very often babies are born with such pathology. For example, the inguinal hernia in newborn boys is formed as a result of an abnormal formation of the vaginal abdominal process, on it the testicle subsequently moves into the scrotum area, and also as a result of weakened muscular walls of the inguinal canal (for the same reason in girls).

In a number of cases, this type of pathology develops one-sidedly (right). Usually in children, it appears at an early age or during a newborn period, in the lower abdomen (inguinal zone), you can notice a slight bulging, which increases with loud crying of the baby. To the touch, this consistency is quite elastic and soft - in the supine position the hernial sac easily fits into the peritoneum.

What does inguinal hernia look like? As for boys, they have a rounded or oval shape. In the case of an oval configuration, the hernial sac passes into the scrotum - changing its asymmetry. Inguinal hernia in newborn girls is always round in shape in the groin, with large sizes it falls into the labia. Basically, such education does not cause discomfort to the child and in a quiet state is almost not noticeable and only when straining, coughing, crying, it becomes denser and bulges outward.

According to the statement of medicine, the boys suffer from inguinal hernia because of their physiological characteristics. The main causes of the pathology:

1. Obesity in the baby

2. Heredity (underdevelopment of the abdominal wall)

3. Physical overstrain

4. Injury of the abdominal wall

5. Problems with urination.

Parents, after learning that such a diagnosis is put to their baby, is undoubtedly frightened, tk. Inguinal hernia in newborns is radically different from umbilical cord. If the umbilical hernia is diagnosed in most children and eventually disappears by the time (by three years) without requiring surgical intervention, while the inguinal hernia threatens to infringe - this is a serious threat to the child's life, in this case an unscheduled operation is performed.

How to recognize the first symptoms of strangulation

Signs of infringement, as a rule, increase gradually. The child becomes restless, constantly crying, when pressing the abdominal cavity the baby screams, as tenderness is observed, the hernial sac strongly protrudes and becomes firm, vomiting, constipation and fever are not excluded. After a while, painful sensations subside - the baby has a weakness. In case of detection of such symptoms, it is necessary to urgently go to a medical institution (to a surgeon).

Treatment

Unlike the umbilical hernia, which in most cases is self-tightened, the inguinal is removed only in an operative way. Thanks to modern technologies in the field of medicine, inguinal hernia in newborns is quickly removed by hernia repair. This operation can be carried out at any age and does not constitute any complexity and risk to the health of the baby. Within half an hour the surgeon excises a hernial sac and strengthens the abdominal wall.

Weakened or seriously sick children, the removal of inguinal hernia can be delayed for a certain period (until the child recovers). The rehabilitation period after the operation is only 2-3 days and the child is discharged (with stitches) - after a week they remove the stitches, and the baby safely goes on the mend. Within a month, parents and a child will forget about this problem, the only reminder of the hernia will be a small scar in the groin, which will eventually tighten and go pale.
