Grout for stone: properties and types

Stone (both natural and artificial) at the moment is an unusually popular finishing material. However, without using the correct grouting beautiful design will not work. You must first determine the color. In addition, the grout for the stone must meet certain quality and composition requirements. Only in this case the finish will last a long time.

Which properties should be used for grouting depends primarily on where exactly the stone will be mounted. For finishing on the street side, you need to choose a product that is resistant to the effects of low temperatures. Special types are produced, intended for use outside the buildings.

Such a grout for a stone has in its composition special latex plasticizers. Due to this, it becomes much more elastic. In addition, in this case it is much better filled with all voids. And this is important when doing the design on the street. The fact is that if the water gets to the tile, it will freeze when the temperature decreases, correspondingly, the volume of the substance will increase, which can lead to tearing off.

In the event that you do not find a suitable color, you can always paint it with colors that are produced specifically for this purpose. Grout for a stone will last longer if you add some antiseptic. In this case, mold will never appear on it. When choosing a color, you should also take into account that the tool is darker in tone than the stone itself, it will be preferable. Specialists often use this grout for installation. This will advantageously shade the stone and emphasize its texture. Of course, the remedy should not be too bright.

In the event that a seamless laying is supposed, the best option is a polymer grouting of the stone joints, which is made on the basis of silicone. It is used most often when it is supposed to further polish the material. Such a grout can be used both on the street and at the device of "warm floors", because it has a very high degree of elasticity. In order to produce a seamless laying, the polymer composition is injected directly into the joints using a syringe.

Grout for artificial stone can have the same composition. A polymer mixture is also used for porcelain stoneware. On sale, this type of tool is called "suture fillers." However, in any case, when choosing a grout, it is necessary to pay attention to what material was used for gluing the stone to the surface. For example, with a cement-sand mortar, it is best to combine a cement-based agent.

Grout for the stone is applied after cleaning the joints and washing them with a damp sponge. Also, they must be moistened and immediately before application, after preparation of the mixture. During operation, it is best to use a small rubber spatula. Prepare the grout according to the instructions on the package. For each type of tool uses its own specific method.
