Glue for metal: varieties and rules of work

Virtually any glue for metal, which can be found in stores, has high strength. Most often, the bonded structure is not destroyed inside the adhesive layer, but at the boundaries of the metal being joined. Thus, the strength of the adhesive bonding primarily depends on the preparation of the surface.

Usually the coating is contaminated with various oils, scales, paint residues, corrosion marks. Eliminate all this by both chemical and mechanical means.

Before applying the glue for metal, the contaminated surface is treated with solutions of acids or alkalis, as well as special compositions for removing rust and cleaning. The action of acid or alkali is based on the fact that oxides are more rapidly destroyed than the base material. Cleaning with chemical reagents is faster and is much cheaper than mechanical treatment. In addition, a stable layer is formed on the surface of the metal, which increases the strength and durability of the adhesive joint.

Mechanical surface cleaning is also performed before applying the glue for the metal. In this case, they are processed using abrasive materials (metal brushes, shot blasting, sandblasting or sandpaper). The resulting surface becomes rougher, which increases the interaction area of the adhesive and the metal, hence, the strength of the joint increases.

Today on the market there are various adhesives for metal, which have their characteristics and composition.

One of the most common materials is polyvinyl acetate glue (PVA). It allows you to work with wood, glass, metal, leather, fabrics, etc. The substance is applied in a thin layer to previously degreased surfaces, which are tightly compressed. Gripping of the adhesive occurs after 20 minutes, complete drying is observed after a day.

Demand for such a well-known adhesive for rubber and metal, like "Moment." It is also capable of combining wood, ceramics, plastic, felt, hard PVC, etc. This material is toxic and flammable. It should only be operated in well ventilated or open rooms, away from sources of fire. The agent is applied a thin layer on the prepared surfaces, held for a quarter of an hour, and then compresses the connected materials for a few seconds.

Almost everyone knows about epoxy glue, which also allows you to connect metal, glass, wood and other materials. In addition, the tool is used to seal cracks and holes, it can be used as a varnish coating.

This glue for metal has oil and water resistance, and also serves as a good insulator. The substance is toxic. In case of contact with skin, wash immediately with warm water and soap. The product can not be used for gluing food products. The glue itself is prepared with the included resin and hardener in a ratio of 10 to 1. After stirring for 10 minutes, the solution should be applied to the surface with a thin layer and then bonded. Partial polymerization of the solution will occur after 4 hours, complete hardening takes place during the day.
