Fiat 125: Overview

"Fiat" 125 descended from the assembly line in 1967, and the release was completed in 1983. The Italian manufacturer has preferred to let out the car in three variants: a coupe, the versatile person and a sedan. Externally, Fiat 125 can recall VAZ-2101 (better known as Zhiguli or Kopeika). Differences in appearance are in different length of wheelbase, chassis and suspension. For several years (until 1972, when production ceased in Italy), about 604 thousand sedans were produced. Simultaneously with the "native" version of the car, the Polish model was produced. It was distinguished by round headlights. After a while, the lineup was replenished with station wagons and pickups, which had the same name "Fiat" 125. The car's engine from Poland was less powerful.

Causes of production

The reason for creating a new car was the manufacturer's desire to combine the best configurations in one model, discarding something that did not meet expectations. From various models were taken such details as the hood, bumper, chassis and engine. Due to this decision, it was not necessary to spend a lot of money, respectively, and the total cost to consumers was reduced. This is what ensured the success of the car "Fiat" 125. In fact, if you look at any photo of this model, it is unlikely there will be confidence that this is a pure "Italian". Due to the fact that VAZ signed a contract with FIAT, the latter's car became the prototype for the Zhiguli.

FIAT 125 Special

A year after the presentation of the original car, a special version appeared. "Fiat" 125 has become sturdier, more stable and stiffer. The motor was changed - installed more powerful. The transmission remained mechanical. The same version was further modified in 1970. Among the modifications, you can see an automatic transmission in three steps. These were almost the last and only technical characteristics, which later changed. All other restyling versions differed only in design.

Similarity with VAZ-2101

For Russians, the "hundred and twenty-fifth" model will always be associated with the domestic VAZ. However, they are the same only in external signs.

At a time when AvtoVAZ bought the license for the car, the manufacturer combined the base 124 and 125 models of FIAT. So the well-known "Kopeika" was born.
