Feeding trough for hens bunker with own hands: drawings, photo

Successful breeding of chickens or quails on the home mini-farm can only be provided that the correct feeding. Mixed fodder and grain the bird should receive in sufficient quantities. In addition, the owner of the household farm, of course, must necessarily comply with the regime of feeding birds. Otherwise, chickens and quail will be badly carried and slowly gain weight.

However, unfortunately, the possibility of visiting the poultry house 3-4 times a day for the feeding of feathered pets is not available to every owner of the mini-farm. In particular, this applies to summer residents. An exit from a similar situation can be the installation in the shed of such a convenient device, as a bunker feeder for quails and chickens. You can assemble such a construction if desired, including by hand.

Benefits of using

Most often in poultry houses are installed long V-shaped trough-troughs, knocked down from the boards. The construction of these devices is such that chickens can not climb inside to dig in the grain (and scatter it), as well as leave the litter. However, the dimensions of the V-shaped troughs are such that too much food can not be filled in them. If you make such a trough as large as possible, then the chickens will not be able to climb inside. With all the ensuing consequences. Yes, and a place such a design in the barn will take a lot. Therefore, the owners of poultry houses also have to pour the chickens several times a day.

Bunker feeder (photo of similar constructions can be seen on the page), this lack is completely devoid. Having fallen asleep in this adaptation of grain, you can not go into the poultry house for several days. Of course, for summer residents, breeding both chickens and quails, coming to their suburban area at most twice a week, it is very convenient.

Design Features

What is a barn for a chicken bunker? Constructively the device is not too complicated. It consists of two main parts: a large bunker for grain and a tray, designed specifically for feeding the bird. Use this design is very simple. The grain stored in the bunker is poured into the tray gradually, as it is eaten by the hens. Of course, the bird does not have the opportunity to climb inside the bird feeder of this design. The tray is too small for this. Pour food into the hopper through the hole above, using a funnel.

In specialized stores today are sold bunker feeders for chickens of all sizes, made from a wide variety of materials. Most of them are easy to use. However, the devices assembled at the factory are quite expensive. Therefore, many owners of household plots are interested in how to make a feeder with their own hands. The construction of such devices, as already mentioned, is extremely simple.

What materials can be used?

To make self-made feeders for chickens of this variety can:

  • From plastic bottles of different sizes;

  • Old garden buckets;

  • From sewer pipes;

  • Plywood, etc.

In general, it is possible to make such a convenient adaptation, including from available materials in any economy.

Use of bottles

The easiest way to make such a device is like an automatic bird feeder, plastic containers from under mineral water, juices, etc. The adaptation for an adult bird is made from three bottles: two for 5 liters and one for 3 liters. It is important to choose containers with sufficiently dense walls. The procedure for making a feeder in this case should be as follows:

  • One of the five-liter bottles is cut in half.

  • The top part of the container can be thrown out. In the lower half, make five square holes about 5 * 5 cm (all around the circumference). Cut them with a sharp knife at the height of the first rib from the bottom.

  • From a bottle of 3 liters you need to cut off the top with a neck. As a result, you will get a fairly convenient funnel.

How to feed a bird

In use, a bird feeder for bunks, made of plastic bottles, is extremely simple. The remaining whole five-liter bottle is filled with grain through a plastic funnel. Fill the food container should slightly more than half. Next, the bottle gently turns over (the neck should be held with the palm of the hand) and inserted into the cut off part with holes. At the same time, the neck should stand on the bottom.

Of course, the weight of self-made bird feeders (and drinkers) for chickens, made from plastic bottles, is small. Dimensions are quite significant for them. Therefore, chickens can easily turn this device. In order to prevent this from happening, the construction should be fixed to the wall through the holes made in the plastic bunker.

Design for chicks

The feeding bowl for bunker chickens, the manufacturing technique of which was discussed above, is of course not suitable for small chicks. Crawling through a hole in 5x5 cm chick can very easily. Therefore, for the chicks feeders are made from small bottles (1.5 liters). The assembly principle in this case will be slightly different. A bird feeder is prepared as follows:

  • A bottle with a height of 10-12 cm is cut from the 1.5 liter bottle.

  • In it, as in the first case, holes are made. Of course, they should not be very large.

  • The top of the bottle is inserted into the bottom with holes in the neck. Of course, the plug must be removed first.

How to make a bird feeder from a bucket

The accessories of bottles are easy to use and are made elementary. However, sometimes owners of household plots are interested in how to make a feeder with their own hands from a bucket. After all, this design can be more thorough and durable than the bottle. The technology of making feeders of such a variety is also relatively simple. In addition to the bucket, in this case you need a manager for seedlings. From it will be made convenient for chickens "tray". Make the feeder of this variety so:

  • In the bucket at the very bottom cut 5-6 holes of an arch shape about 2-3 cm high.

  • To the bottom of the bucket is screwed a kneader. You can fix it to conventional screws.

  • A strong cord is attached to the handle of the bucket.

  • The feeder is suspended at the required height.

Using a Pipe

The bucket from the bucket is roomy and can last for several years without the need for a replacement. However, sometimes owners of poultry houses make such adaptations and from other materials. For example, a cheap and convenient bunker feeder is obtained from the sewer pipes (photo can be seen below). For the manufacture of the device in this case it will be necessary to purchase:

  • A wide tube 1.5 m long;

  • Two plastic corners (45 and 90);

  • A stub;

  • Three plastic yokes.

On the pipe, you should first put on a small corner (at 45). Strengthen it as tightly as possible. Then a small corner is put on the small one. As a result, a design with a knee, like a drain pipe (but with a slightly elevated outlet) should be obtained. The collected feeder should be hung on the wall of the house, distributing the collars evenly along the entire length.

The plug is only needed if the trough is to be used outdoors. After filling the grain, it is simply put on the pipe from above. It turns out the lid, which prevents the water from getting wet during the rain.

Such an automatic feeder for chickens is extremely simple. Under the suspended pipe a tin or plastic basin is substituted. If any hungry chicken starts to peck the corn from the corner by 90, it will wake up. Fallen in the same grain can also eat other chickens.

Use of plywood

A bucket and a sewer pipe are materials that are perfectly suited for assembling such a convenient structure as a bunker feeder. However, the most durable and thorough are all the same devices knocked out of plywood. In addition, a feeder made of such material, you can pour a lot of grain. Make plywood bunker devices like this:

  • Knock from the sheets of a long narrow vertical box without a bottom. The rear wall should be slightly higher than the front.

  • From narrow boards, a rectangular tray of the same width as the vertical box is knocked down. The length of it with this should be more by 5-7 cm.

  • Attach the tray to the bottom of the drawer. As a result, a large structure appears that resembles an inverted "G" in its profile.

The feeder thus destroyed is not particularly stable. Therefore, it should be screwed to the wall of the barn. On top of the vertical box is desirable to cover the hinged cover.

Such a bunker feeder for quail is very suitable. The only thing for this species of economic birds is to make an adaptation of a much smaller size. Because they contain quails only in cages. The outdoor method of breeding such birds requires too much expenditure for shed equipment.

The small feeding trough, knocked down from the plywood, is simply placed next to the cage in this case, so that quail can stick out between the rods and reach the grain in the tray. For reliability, the feeder should be fixed to the frame of the cage on the screws.
