Features of the power of flowers: when the top dressing of gladiolus

Gladiolus love good care and fertile soil. If they do not get enough attention, they stop throwing arrows and building up foliage. To ensure that they have generously faded and produced replacement bulbs and many large children by the end of vegetation, they should be provided with nutrients from spring until late autumn. Top dressing gladiolus is carried out in stages and is divided into 3 different periods of importance: pre-planting, pre-planting, post-planting (root and foliar) fertilization.

Before planting: soil preparation

Before landing gladioli need to take care of the site. The soil is prepared from autumn. The earth is dug to the bayonet of the shovel, and completely reparted manure: 2 buckets per 1 m 2 . In addition, it is necessary to fertilize the soil with phosphorus-potassium fertilizer, 30-40 g per m 2 . 3 weeks before the planned bulb landing, urea must be added - 20 g per 1 m 2 .

When the time comes for planting gladioli, it will only be necessary to cut the ridge with a flat-top cutter and pour it with phytosporin or a solution of potassium permanganate. Some use for this crushed garlic mass, infused in water (50 grams of garlic per 10 liters). Bulbs before planting should be treated with biostimulants.

Menu for gladiolus

To the ground the gladioli have special requirements. They grow well on light chernozem, sandy loamy soils and on loams. The soil reaction must be slightly acidic. On acidified areas, gladioli develop poorly, and in a land with an alkaline reaction are prone to infection with scab.

Gladiolus most need three elements: nitrogen, potassium and phosphorus. Especially great is the need for nitrogen at the beginning of the growing season, when the plant develops the first 4 leaves. With a lack of nitrate fertilizers, flowering is weakened and growth is slowed. With excess - the flower spurge and the resistance to infections decreases.

If large bulbs were used for planting, top dressing of gladiolus in the first stage is carried out with nitrogen and potassium. Children are given a full fertilizer (which also includes phosphorus).

During the budding period, the consumption of potassium sharply increases. Phosphorus in small doses is necessary for the plant during the entire growing season. These elements are responsible for the abundance of flowering and further bulb ripening.

Basic root fertilizing

Gladiolus feeding, applied before and during planting, is an auxiliary. The bulk of the nutrients should come during the growing season.

Gladiolus urgently need fertilizers in three periods:

  1. In the appearance phase 3-4 sheets.
  2. At the beginning of budding.
  3. At the beginning of flowering.

During each period, fertilizers should be applied 2 times at intervals of several days. Thus, the nutrients will flow more evenly to the plant roots. In total, you need to make 10 additional fertilizing during the season: 7 root, 3 foliar.

The first two times the following solution is applied (per 1 m 2 ): 10 liters of water requires 1/4 kg of mullein, 5 g of potassium and ammonium nitrate and 3-4 g of magnesium sulfate.

Second period: 25 g of potassium sulfate and superphosphate are added to the bucket of water.

The third period: twice for 20 g of calcium nitrate and 100 g of wood ash for a bucket of water.

At the end of flowering, one dry superphosphate can be introduced: 30 g per 1 m 2 .

Foliar top dressing

The introduction of fertilizer "by sheet" is a very effective tool in the rapid resolution of specific problems. If the leaves grow poorly and have too light color, it can be helped by foliar top dressing with urea. For the fastest outflow of nutrients to the bulb during flowering, it is possible to spray the plants with superphosphate, avoiding getting the solution onto the flowers.

The first top dressing for flowers is held in early June. On a bucket of water, take 2 grams of potassium permanganate and boric acid. Spraying is carried out in dry weather from the finest atomizer, in order to avoid draining the solution from the leaves.

To properly form corms and increase the number of flowers at the end of June, a second spraying is carried out: in 1.5 liters of water 1.5 g of manganese and copper sulfate, 1 g of boric acid and manganese sulfate, 0.1 g of cobalt nitrate and 0.3 g of sulphate are dissolved Zinc. The third spraying is carried out at the end of July with the same composition of microelements.

Any top dressing of gladioli is made with moistened soil, sufficiently warm air temperature and dry weather. If heavy rain falls, the nutrients are washed out with water. In this case it is necessary either to repeat the application of fertilizers, or to cancel it until a more suitable time.
