Feast of the Savior: 3 options

August is a wonderful warm summer month, which is the celebration of such Christian festivities as Spas. There are three such holidays, and they differ from each other in their importance. The common thing about them is that every holiday of the Savior is connected with Jesus Christ our Savior. Consider each of these celebrations and the history of their occurrence.

The First Feast of the Savior

The first celebration in honor of Christ the Savior is celebrated every year on August 14. This holiday was founded in honor of the origin of the ancient cross of the Lord. And to this day preserved particles of this relic, which have a miraculous power. Currently they are stored in Constantinople, in the church of St. Sophia. There are cases of numerous healings, the cessation of epidemics and disasters that have occurred due to these parts of the Cross. This Spas is an Orthodox holiday, which falls on the very first day of the Assumption. Therefore, cheerful celebrations are not allowed. On this day, you can not eat meat dishes, nor dairy foods. Traditionally, this Savior is called honey.

This is due to the fact that during this period the honeycombs are filled with fresh honey, which you can already eat. Also there is also such a name of this holiday, as "makovei". There are two reasons for this. In accordance with the first, this naming ceremony is associated with the maturation of poppy in Russia. According to the second version, the name was influenced by the fact that on the same day the martyrs of Maccabees, the Old Testament saints, are commemorated.

The Second Feast of the Savior

This celebration is celebrated annually on August 19 in conjunction with the Transfiguration of the Lord. Therefore, such a celebration of the Savior is the most significant of all, because it refers to the twelve. On this day it is allowed to eat apples. According to ancient customs, it was considered a sin to try these fruits earlier this day. In addition to apples, people traditionally bring to the church other fruits and grains to cover them with holy water. The celebration of the apple of the Savior goes on for nine days. During this period it is customary to go to visit, give apples, and also prepare various dishes from them, make preparations for the winter.

The third holiday of the Savior

The last of the celebrations falls on August 29. It is also called "dozhinki", as at this time the collection of bread ends. There is also a name such as "Nut Savior". The history of the holiday in this case is associated with the fact that by this time just keep up the nuts. There is also the name "Savior on the Canvas", which is due to the fact that on this day, the transfer of the Holy Face of the Lord is celebrated. History refers to us in the distant days, when Jesus Christ was still living on earth. For the healing of one person, he sent a sick man a towel, which the Savior wiped His face, as a result of which the image remained on the cloth. As soon as he touched the canvas, the sufferer was healed of his illness. Such stories are connected with the origin of the ancient holidays of the Savior. With these festivities there are also associated many omens and proverbs, because they have become truly popular celebrations. May God come with you!
