Fatal year 1682 in the history of Russia

One year for history is nothing, but it so happened that it was the year 1682 in the history of Russia that turned out to be rich in events. Much has happened both mournful and joyful. It is difficult to give a unambiguous assessment of the period, but the fact that this date is important is unquestionable.

Winter of 1682

Already starting from January, it is possible to single out a significant one. It was in this month that the Boyar Duma decreed that the state needs the destruction of parochialism. Thus, there is a rejection of the system of distribution of posts in the state, depending on how much the person is notable. Also, as a consequence, Muscovites saw public destruction of digit books.

Spring of 1682

The most important thing happens in the spring: at the end of April there was a brutal massacre against the Old Believer Avvakum and his followers. Protopop was burned alive alive, like other leaders of the Old Believers who went against the reforms of the Patriarch of All Russia Nikon. Saint Avvakum managed to leave a life story, which is a cultural monument of the seventeenth century.

A little later, Tsar Fedor Alekseyevich dies , and a reasonable question arises: who will continue the reign of the Romanov dynasty? On May 7, the answer was found: it was decided to place the youngest brother on the father of the deceased tsar - Peter Alekseevich. True, there were other candidates, even older than Peter. Tsarevna Sofya and Tsarevich Ivan are the children of Alexei Mikhailovich from his first marriage with M. Miloslavskaya. Sophia, who was offended by this situation, managed to raise the rebellion of the Tsarist archers against her younger brother and achieved the following: "the first" tsar, he is the main in the country - Ivan, "the second" - Peter, and Sophia herself was appointed as regent for them. And all the real power in the country was in her hands. 1682 in the history of Russia is the year when there is a coup on the throne.

Peter the Great, being already an adult, often recalled all the horror of the Strelets' uprising, what happened then, on the twenty-eighth of May, the fateful year of 1682. Streletsky rebellion, King Sophia did not forgive, although at that time he was only ten years old.

The summer of 1682

In mid-July, a new dispute arose between the Old Believers and the supporters of the church reform, the aforementioned events serve as prerequisites for this incident. At this time, in order to streamline relations in the state between the disputants, it was decided to place a confrontation in the Kremlin's Faceted Chamber and solve all the burning issues. This meeting was attended by both the young king and their sister. What is remarkable, the Old Believers behaved in an unacceptable manner. Historical documents indicate that they were proud that the dispute would be clearly resolved in their favor (in this they were assured by Prince IA Khovansky). When they left the Kremlin, they paced the streets of Moscow and shouted that they would be supported by the streltsy, because they had won a fair debate. In addition, they urged all to violate the reforms and be baptized, or to carry out the procession in the old way.

The cunning princess wanted to use the right moment and ordered the streltsi to commit reprisals against the schismatics. The chief orator of the Old Believers, Nikita Pustosvyat, suffered most of all for his impudent behavior, for the edification of all of them he was executed publicly on the Execution Ground in Red Square. The rest ran away from the capital: the Urals, Siberia. After that, for a very long time, questions about the blasphemy of the Nikon reform were no longer raised. 1682 in the history of Russia is the time of many executions.

But there was another problem. In Moscow, a rumor began that the archers together with the prince of Khovansky were going to ruin the tsar's couple and organize a coup. Afraid that the Streletsky rebellion would break out, the whole Romanov family fled to the suburbs, not forgetting to surround themselves with guards.

In August of the same year, Ivan became very ill (he was sick). The sole ruler of the kingdom is crowned by Peter.

Autumn of 1682

It is logical that long after the rumors of the plot, Khovansky did not live. He served as the head of the Strelets' order, and he was very much afraid. Sophia Alekseevna's reign was very despotic. Being a very determined ruler, she ordered the capture and execution of the prince, even though he had once supported his claims to the throne.

Thus ended the fateful year 1682 in the history of Russia, full of executions and conspiracies. Although for many who consider themselves to be Westerners, this year is joyful, because Peter Romanov comes to power, later called the Great in his merit.
