7th Guards Airborne Assault Mining Division: combat route

The 7th Guards Airborne Assault Mining Division is part of the Armed Forces of the Soviet Union and the Russian Federation. The subdivision was formed at the end of the Great Patriotic War, and the full name was received after 3 years. The division participated in many armed conflicts, a large number of personnel were awarded medals and orders.

Formation

The 7th Guards Airborne Assault Mining Division was formed at the end of the winter of 1945. The regiment went to the west. The unit took positions in Hungary, where it took baptism of fire. While all fronts were advancing swiftly, in the area of Lake Balaton the Red Army, in the first for a long time and for the last time in the whole war, built defensive fortifications. It was connected with the order of Hitler to drop the liberation forces from Vienna. No less significant than the city itself, for the Nazis there was an oil well. And oil, as you know, is a fuel of war.
The 7th Guards Airborne Assault Mountain Division occupied the defense in deep defense. The plan was worked out by the Headquarters of the Commander-in-Chief. It was based on the successful experience of the Battle of the Kursk Bulge.

The beginning of the breakout

The Nazis planned to press the defense of the Soviet troops with a rapid tank attack. On March 6, even before dawn, the Nazis launched an offensive. After heavy fighting, they seized the necessary, from a tactical point of view, areas. The main impact occurred between the two lakes, where the 7th Guards Airborne Assault Mining Division was located. There they advanced in a dense formation and suppressed the Red Army men with superiority in technique. After 2 days, howitzers and MLRS systems began to thunder. This meant that the main forces of the Reich would soon engage in battle. By 9 o'clock in the morning the SS tank division began to advance.

But the Nazis underestimated the resilience of Soviet soldiers, and the offensive drowned, the defense held out. After an unsuccessful attempt to counter-attack, the fascists could no longer organize serious pressure on their opponents. The Red Army liberated Vienna, and the road to Berlin was finally opened.

After World War II

The 7th Guards Airborne Assault Mountain Division ended its participation in the Great Patriotic War, liberating Czechoslovakia, and then deployed in the Baltic States. Participated in the suppression of attempts by Nazi revanchists to make a coup in Hungary. After this, the command sent the division to Czechoslovakia to participate in Operation Danube.

In 1968, the government of Czechoslovakia in the majority betrayed the idea of socialism and wanted to ask for help from NATO. In response, the Warsaw Treaty countries decided to suppress the coup attempt by military means. Preparation and planning of the operation took place in the strictest secrecy. Commanders in the field until the last minute did not know about specific goals and combat tasks. On August 21, Allied troops stopped the border of Czechoslovakia and occupied key political and military targets. The operation was successful, practically without losses and battles.

The Chechen Wars

During both Chechen campaigns of the 7th Guards Airborne Assault Mining Division, various tasks were set. Fighters fought in the hottest spots in the North Caucasus. In 1995, stormed Grozny, where fierce fighting was fought for every lane. Also, the Seventh Guards Airborne Assault Mining Division carried out tasks to clear the Vedeno and Shatoi regions. It is a mountainous area, where there is the infamous Argun gorge. There, militants of the Arab mercenary Khattab defeated a column of federal troops during the first campaign.

Also, the combat biography of the division includes itself peacekeeping operations in Abkhazia and the suppression of protests in Azerbaijan during the disintegration of the USSR. Personnel of the military formation - five and a half thousand people. The main equipment - combat vehicles landing and armored personnel carriers. The nickname of the 7th division is "Bison".
