Extreme is an assessment by society

It's no secret that people like to create definitions not only for visible objects, but also for very abstract and ephemeral things that exist only in a figurative world. In this post we will discuss what an extreme is. This is one of the qualities peculiar to almost every person. It can not be felt or measured, it is a subjective and very relative assessment of behavior. Why are we so arranged that we can go to extremes, who decides what is the extreme and what leads to behavior on the brink? Let's discuss the topic in this post.

What is an extreme?

It's not a secret that people are arranged in a rather peculiar way. Few of us are distinguished by calm and consistent behavior, an easy perception of life, an openness to the new and unexplored. We are also uneasy in relations both to ourselves and to other people.

The society has long ago tacitly determined that there is some norm. However, why behind the scenes? Take any religion - it necessarily contains the commandments that give an indication of what is right. Violation of these laws is considered a deviation from the norm. Ignoring certain commandments is punishable by law, for example, theft or murder. Violation of others is simply not welcomed, condemned and called society "extremes."

Examples of extremes

For example, it is believed that you need to work five days a week. A person who exceeds the "norm" will be considered a workaholic, the same one who does not work at all is a parasite.

In the Orthodox world it is considered the norm to have a family, a woman to marry, and a man to marry. If a person does not want to follow this "plan", leads a disorderly life and has many partners, he can be convicted of debauchery. The one who does not want to have ties with the opposite sex will be considered a Puritan.

The money should be so much that it's enough for "bread and butter" - an apartment, a car and a loan repayment. If a person refuses material benefits, this is not normal. Just as it is considered abnormal unrestrained pursuit of money.

There must be two or three children. Refusal of children, fashionable nowadays the concept of "childfree" is one extreme, and the desire to have a huge family is different.

Therefore, the extreme is what is considered wrong, excessive on the part of society. And that's all. And you thought?

How is it for those who "rush to extremes"?

You need to live in a way that is comfortable, and that it does not interfere with others. Blindly following religious dogma, society forgets about this simple rule and does not give many people freedom of choice. "A man of extremes" can be convicted and condemned for his absolutely natural desires. You will not go to extremes if you provide comfort for yourself and for others. Condemnation of society by those who do not violate these rules is extreme. This is the reality of life in society.

How to live right?

No one, including your parents, the married half, the superior, the priests, can tell you about the right life.

Everything is very subjective and varies from person to person, from religion to religion. Extreme and norm are different not only on different continents, but sometimes even within the same street.

You yourself feel discomfort sometimes, do not you? When eating too much or refusing food because of a diet? Or if, for example, you spend all your money on shopping?

People are organized in such a way that they realize when they cross the norm - and the measure of this is not the opinion of society but the inner feeling of peace and harmony with oneself. A norm is a calmness on the heart, a soulful mood, a lack of remorse due to actions. Nature and divine providence (whoever is behind this) provided us with a barometer of correctness. Listen to your inner voice, not your neighbor, and you will do the right thing.
