Embroidery with ribbons "Irises": the simplest of instructions

A variety of colors and textures of the material allows you to create very beautiful products (miniatures, paintings) and decor. The most popular theme of ribbon embroidery is flowers. After all, there is no absolutely identical plant in nature and, adding a little fancy, you can create a unique pattern. The main thing in this business is to "see" the ribbon, to choose colors, to properly develop the composition and to apply effective techniques of embroidery.

Embroidery ribbons irises (single flowers or as a part of a bouquet) allows you to try your hand at the initial stage of learning this kind of needlework.

Materials and Tools

To create an embroidery, you will need the following:

  • Canvas for embroidery "Aida".
  • Satin ribbons for petals 8 mm wide - white (if coloring is supposed) or colored.
  • Green satin ribbon for stems and leaves 5 mm wide.
  • Linen cloth for the basis.
  • Sewing threads in the color of ribbons.
  • Embroidery frame or frame.
  • Scissors.
  • Needles - "Cinel" No. 18 and sewing.
  • Paper and pencil (to create a sketch).

On the example of embroidery ribbons "Iris" you can see how stitches of different lengths and directions create interesting shapes.

Steps of embroidering a flower

In the process of working on the composition it is necessary to be able to apply a ribbon stitch (simple and offset), a twisted stitch and a seam "winding" with ribbons. Before embroidering, use paper and a pencil to transfer the flower pattern to the fabric. The material on the embroidery frame should be stretched as tightly as possible, without sagging.

The process itself consists of the following stages:

1. Stems and leaves.

  • The stems are made with a seam "winding" of green threads and ribbons. The resulting workpiece should be attached to the fabric with hand-stitched stitches.
  • Leaves are made from green tape with stitches with curls or ribbon stitches with twisting. At the ends of each make additional attachments.

2. Flowers. They always start from the upper petals. The different size of the inflorescences gives the embroidery with the ribbons "Irises" harmonious.

  • First make 2 symmetrical ribbon stitches with a shift to the base at one point, after which the same ribbon make another one between them slightly over the top. The result is a voluminous upper part.
  • A ribbon of a different color performs similar stitches on the left and right of the base and the last one is between them in the direction down.

Iris flower coloring

Embroidery ribbons "Iris" can be made from colored ribbons of any combination. But many masters use simply white material on which the necessary combination of acrylic paints or a pigment for a batik is put.

Staining can be done in 2 ways:

1. Ribbons are given an individual shade before starting work. And, that the color was fixed after the drying of the paint, they must be ironed with a hot iron.

2. A flower from white ribbons is covered with a cloth and the paint is applied with a brush. This method requires decent skills in needlework, since one wrong move can ruin the whole work.

Experienced masters often arrange master classes of embroidery with ribbons of irises, poppies, bells and other flowers, where there are constantly repeating forms.

Flower compositions with irises

Embroidered irises are usually decorated with interior items - bedspreads, cushions, tablecloths, wall miniatures. They are combined with other colors (poppies, calendula, bells, etc.) or spread out in the form of an independent composition. When creating a bouquet of irises, you must adhere to a number of simple rules:

  • No more than 7 flowers in embroidery.
  • Peduncles should be located at different levels, and stems - at an angle to each other.
  • The ends of the stems should be "rest" in the base in the form of a vase, basket or ribbon.

Flowers can be made in different colors or made of different materials.

In recent years, the art of embroidery with ribbons is experiencing a surge in popularity. A variety of materials, very detailed master classes and the view that embroidery relieves stress, gave this needlework a second birth.
