Dmitry Shumilov graduated from the Moscow Conservatory in the vocal class. He performed a number of keyboard and vocal parts. Also works as a composer of music, created especially for commercials.

Dmitry Shumilov was in the band immediately, except for him the first line-up included Pyotr Plavinsky - songwriter, pianist, Roman Suslov - composer, balalaika player, Mikhail Vereshchagin, Mikhail Mitin - drummer, and Gor Oganisyan and Arkady Semenov. The debut album, recorded together with our hero, was released in 1986. It is called "Opera-86". The premiere of the next program of the band took place in the framework of the celebration of the birthday of Rock Lab.
The album entitled "Dust on shoes" appeared in 1987. He is named the best release of the year in Moscow. Dmitry Shumilov also assumes the role of pianist. In these periods Roman Suslov becomes a vocalist. In 1989, the company "Melody" publishes a vinyl disc, which gained fame among music lovers under its unofficial name "White plate". Especially for this collection songs from the first albums of the group were rewritten with a better sound. The circulation of the plate reached 125,000 copies. Dmitry Shumilov recorded key and bass parts for this album.
Since 1989 the band began to tour Europe. At the speeches, a program called "Ethnic Experiences" is being rolled out. After returning from the tour, the band records the record "And-and-again." The album is notable for the fact that the group managed to create it during the three days of 1992. The high rate of work did not reduce the quality of the product. The album has an aesthetic integrity, as well as instrumental art. The group demonstrates this program in the framework of the Berlin Festival of Avant-garde Music. The album differs across Russia on branded audio cassettes, CDs and vinyls. The premiere of the record is fully sold out.
In 1995, after a three-year break, a new song "Fit" appears. Also comes an anthology dedicated to the decade of the group. The team is working on new songs. In 1997, an album called "Spit on a Stone" was released. It is a collective creation of all participants of the "Polite Refusal". The disc turned out to be more diverse and avant-garde than the previous work of the group.
