Disease of the tongue - terrible symptoms and their causes

There are various diseases of the tongue that are inherent only in this organ and are not associated with other lesions of the oral cavity and mucous membrane.
One of the most serious ailments is desquamative glossitis or geographical language. The nature of the phenomenon has not been fully studied, but there are suggestions that the disease is caused by disorders of nerve trophism associated with gastrointestinal abnormalities, exudative diathesis, helminthic invasion, etc. In children desquamation manifests itself in the first year of life.

The symptom of the disease is the appearance on the lateral surface or back of the tongue of the spot grayish or yellowish in color. In the future swelling of the epithelium occurs, which is then rejected. Simultaneously there are oval foci of desquamation, which can be combined together in various combinations, as a result of which the language receives a drawing similar to a geographical map.

In rare cases, children have such a disease of the tongue as the rhomboid glossitis. As a result of the ailment in the posterior part, along the midline of the back of the tongue, there is a diamond-shaped region, in which there are no threadlike papillae, because of which a bright pink patch appears on the general background. Treatment is not performed, but a survey is required to identify the pathology.

Sometimes the children of primary school age develop a folded tongue. This ailment is usually a companion of Down's disease. On the surface of the tongue, transverse and longitudinal furrows are formed, which contain filiform papillae. It is necessary to distinguish this anomaly from cracks and other manifestations having an inflammatory character, or from lymphangriomas. This disease of the language does not require treatment.

Pathology, called a black hairy tongue, is caused by hyperplasia of threadlike nipples, which grow with a stratum corneum and at the same time extend to one centimeter or more. Papillae have a dark yellow, brownish brown, reaching to black, color. This disease of the tongue is more common in adults and is a complication after various diseases or appears as a result of taking antibiotics. Analyzes of scrapings of the surface of the tongue show a diversity of microflora in which yeast-like fungi are found, moreover, the symptoms of the yeast infection can not be determined.

Changing the structure of the nipples - not the only indicator of the disease of a person's language. Its surface can contain various rashes, sores and vesicles. This is often a side effect of taking medications. In the event that ulcers appear for no apparent reason, especially on the sides of the tongue, it is necessary to consult a doctor. Such symptoms are a harbinger of the development of cancer of the tongue.

If the tongue fails to remove the plaque, and the organ itself becomes bright red or pale yellow, burning or pain occurs when swallowing, chewing, talking, then we can talk about inflammation of the tongue. If the symptoms of glossitis persist for more than a day, you should go to the dentist. Today, there are a number of anti-inflammatory drugs that can quickly eliminate this disease of the tongue. Only in very severe cases does the patient need hospitalization.
Among the diseases are noted and congenital pathologies - hypertrophied or vice versa, underdeveloped, reduced in size language. These anomalies are eliminated surgically.

In some cases, the disease of the language is associated with a lack of vitamins and trace elements, resulting in tissue edema, the papillae do not appear above the surface of the tongue, resulting in a smooth mucosa. With such phenomena, drugs with side effects are abolished, and vitamins prescribe.
