Who is the hermaphrodite? Riddles of biology

Nature sometimes throws to mankind almost inexplicable mysteries and riddles. For example, who is a hermaphrodite really? Why do such changes occur in the development of the fetus? What are the factors that determine this? The answers to these questions by scientists have not been found so far. The fact is that one of the 2,000 babies born today has both female and male gender characteristics.

Legend

So, who is the hermaphrodite? There is a very beautiful Greek legend about the son of Hermes and Aphrodite. Once this beautiful young man, whose name was Hermaphrodite, saw the nymph of the Salmakid. In love, she invited him to marry her. However, the young man refused. Then the nymph waited until the Hermaphrodite enters the water, and so firmly embraced him that they became one.

Who is the hermaphrodite in terms of medicine

Hermaphroditism is called a special kind of pathology, in which a man has both female and male sexual organs (external) and glands. Such deviations in development are referred to as a form of intersexualism. There are two types of hermaphroditism - true and false.

In the first case, the sex glands of both sexes are present in the human body simultaneously. Such hermaphrodites (photo organs can be found in special literature) are born extremely rarely. At a false type of a gland are formed correctly, that is they or man's, or female, but external bodies have attributes of a two-cavity. Of course, pathology is extremely unpleasant in any case. A person who was born differently from everyone, of course, experiences a certain discomfort when communicating with other people.

The sex organs of hermaphrodites can be similar, to a large extent, to male or female. In the first case, the penis resembles a clitoris. The scrotum is bifurcated like a female labia. In the second case, the male term may be present between the labia mumps in an embryonic state.

Diagnosis and treatment

A child with a suspicion of one of the forms of a similar pathology is examined by a gynecologist, endocrinologist, urologist and geneticist. In each case, treatment is carried out individually. To determine the true sex, first of all, the functional prevalence of the gonad is taken into account. Finding out who the hermaphrodite in this particular case is - a man or a woman, perform an operation to remove the "wrong" sex gland (not always), as well as plastic correction of the genitals.

Interesting Facts

Hermaphrodites very often took part and, of course, won in the Olympic Games. However, in 1968 mandatory sex control was introduced. After that, their performances were stopped, for example, Soviet track and field athletes Irina and Tamara Press, Czech Zdenka Koubova, Polish runner Eva Klobukovska and many other female athletes.

A very entertaining case associated with hermaphroditism occurred in America. In 2004, 28-year-old Gaylord Reyborn, after a certain operation "turned" into a woman, suddenly became pregnant. Since she did not have sex, the conclusion suggests itself. Most likely, her own sperm got into her vagina. The assumption that the egg suddenly spontaneously began to share itself is too incredible. The woman refused to interrupt the pregnancy.
