Deserts of the world and their features

Our planet is rich in fertile soils, endless meadows, majestic forests, rivers and lakes, seas and oceans. However, the deserts of the world occupy a significant territory of the Earth. Together they captured a quarter of the entire land surface, with each year their area increases.

Their main feature is the absence of a closed vegetation cover. The reason is high temperatures during the day, low temperatures by night. It is this climatic factor that prevents the representatives of the flora from developing in their great diversity. This applies to sandy, stony and clayey deserts.

There are deserts of the world, the surface of which is covered with a thick layer of ice. This is Antarctica and the Arctic. A characteristic feature of these sites are fairly low temperatures throughout the year. Antarctica is the largest in size on the entire globe. It takes first place in the list of large deserts. The Arctic settled in the third position.

The deserts of Africa include the Sahara, Namib and Kalahari. The first of them is the most extensive after the ice colossus. This sandy-stony wasteland with a subtropical climate stretched for a giant distance, affecting the territories of eleven African countries.

The animal world of the desert is represented by only a few species. In the conditions of sharply changing day and night temperatures and with almost complete absence of any vegetation, camels, snakes, monitor lizards, scorpions survive here. However, Sahara can boast of the presence of its own exotic animal: among the sand and rocks there lives a small brisk Phenec called "Sahara Fox".

Deserts of the world - the most sparsely populated areas of the planet. This is not surprising, because people are attracted by the existence of vital resources, the main of which is water. Therefore, no matter how a man attracts a desert, the absence of important natural resources makes his existence in such conditions practically impossible.

Many registers have underground waters, sometimes reaching the surface. As a rule, in such places oases are formed. It is around them that life starts to bubble. It is worth noting that sometimes these places attract a huge number of not only Bedouins and nomads, but also tourists. For example, the Huacachin oasis, located in the Peruvian Atacama Desert, is a small village whose population lives off the shores of a natural lake formed by underground waters. Here people like to visit tourists and residents of the nearby town.

Deserts of the world contain a huge number of secrets and mysteries. However, at present, these giant sand and rocky registries are used for industrial and scientific purposes. So, the American Mojave Desert, located on the territory of California, is the location of a huge number of solar power plants. Another country, Jordan, boasts the successful use of desert lands for sowing cultivated plants.
