The number of new inventions is growing every year, and we are not so surprised when we hear that a T-shirt for tourists, a tablet PC, a robotic vacuum cleaner or a floating fish farm was invented. Some of these inventions have made a real revolution, some cause only a smile, but at the same time there are quite interesting and inexpensive things that can be used in everyday life, making life even more comfortable and enjoyable.

One of these small useful inventions is the cold accumulator. This device is able to store the cold for quite some time. It represents a container, inside of which there is a substance with a large heat capacity. The principle of operation is as follows: firstly, the container is placed in the freezer, in which the substance is cooled for a long time to the desired temperature. After that, the device can take heat for a long time.

Cold accumulators are used as the main cooling elements in various refrigerated bags. They can also be used in household refrigerators to stabilize the temperature in the chamber. As a result, the compressor will turn on and off less frequently, the time of safe storage of products with a sudden power outage will increase, and the freezing capacity of freezers will noticeably increase.

Many folk craftsmen are interested in the question: "Is it possible to make a homemade cold accumulator?". The composition of the liquid that is poured into the plastic container is therefore of particular interest. In fact, as a container, you can use a plastic bottle, a small plastic canister, etc., with this there is no problem. The main thing is to prepare the right liquid.

If you look for photos that show a cold accumulator, you can see that the liquid inside it has a characteristic blue color. However, this shade is just an effect of the dye. The main element in the filler is carboxymethylcellulose, a weak colorless acid, which is often used as a thickener in the production of glue, cosmetics, toothpaste, food (as an additive with code E466), etc. In principle, with a strong desire, you can buy it in a package of 25 kg, but it's easier to make a homemade substitute.

Theoretically, the cold accumulator will work with any composition, the specific heat of which has the maximum value in comparison with any other liquid. Here is one of the recipes for preparing such a liquid from improvised means:

1. In one liter of water, you need to dissolve the maximum amount of table salt.

2. All this is poured in three liters of pure water and the adherent glue of CMC is added in such quantity as to bring the liquid to a gelatinous state.

3. The resulting composition is poured into two 2-liter bottles, which are then placed in the freezer.

The cold accumulator thus obtained can store a temperature of -12 ° C, and it can be controlled by changing the salt concentration. The less salt is added, the lower the temperature.
