Coffee tree at home - for true connoisseurs of a noble drink

Well-groomed coffee tree in the interior of the apartment is always very unusual and beautiful. Some growers, after experiencing a sad experience in growing coffee, never again undertake a second experiment. However, growing a coffee tree at home is not such a difficult task, feasible even for beginners. It is only necessary to know what conditions must be created for this plant for its prosperous existence.

A little bit about coffee.

Since time immemorial, only two of the existing types of coffee trees have been used for indoor cultivation: Liberian and Arabic.

Legends say that coffee as a drink appeared in Arabia in the 12th century. The miracle properties of this plant were discovered by the mullah, who noticed the unusual liveliness of goats that had been eaten by the leaves of the coffee tree. Mullah began to brew coffee grains to his students before the evening prayer for cheerfulness. In the 17th century, coffee as a drink became popular in Europe, America, Turkey and Persia.

Coffee tree at home.

The coffee tree at home blooms twice a year - in spring and autumn. Coffee berries first have a green color, and as they mature they become dark red. The coffee tree looks very attractive, because on its branches can be both fruits and flowers. If the coffee tree grows in a small pot, then the leaves can dry out the edges. This indicates a lack of nutrients in the soil. Fruits for their ripening take food from nearby leaves, causing their exhaustion. Therefore, when buds appear on your tree, it is better to gather the ripened fruits so that the future harvest is good.

Features of cultivation and reproduction.

In order to grow a coffee tree with your own hands, you need to know some features of this plant. Coffee grows well at home, but it loves moisture, good lighting and is afraid of drafts. It should be noted that coffee at home does not tolerate the proximity of other indoor plants.

Fruits that decorate the coffee tree at home, mature more than six months. Each berry contains two grains. They are cleaned from the shell, dried and used after preliminary frying for the preparation of an invigorating drink.

Proper care, a pledge that your coffee tree at home will not be sick and amazed by pests.

The coffee tree "loves" the windows facing east and west. The temperature of the ambient air in the apartment should be at least 22-24 degrees. In winter, the temperature can be reduced to 16 degrees. In winter, place the plant away from batteries, as they help to dry the soil and leaves.

As soon as the top layer of soil dries the coffee you need to water. Too much soil moisture in the pot can cause the leaves to fall off. Sprinkle the tree with water, which lasted for 24 hours in a jar, preferably with a wide throat. Spraying is useful once in two days.

Top-dressing coffee at home is done in the spring once every two weeks. To prepare a nutrient solution, take 3 grams of potassium chloride and 5 grams of saltpeter per liter of water. For one coffee tree of fruiting age, one liter of such a solution is enough for the entire period of fertilizing. You can buy fertilizing in specialized stores. Alternation of mineral and organic top dressing will bring great benefit to the plant and will ensure its abundant flowering. In winter, you do not need to feed.

To form a beautiful crown, the tips of the shoots are pricked. Branches, which for some reason have dried, are cut.

The coffee tree blooms at home at 4 years of age. It occurs in the beginning of spring, when the tree is blossoming fragrant white flowers.

Transplant young coffee trees every year in the spring, and plants older than four years once in two years.

For coffee is best suited for light acidic soil, consisting of peat, sand and humus.

You can propagate the coffee tree at home and seeds planted immediately after collection and cleaning. After planting seeds in the soil, the pot must be covered with a packet of polyethylene, since for germination of the seed it needs high humidity. You can propagate the tree and cuttings with dense bark. Such reproduction is more laborious, but these plants bloom earlier than those obtained from seeds.
