The musical "Chicago" - one of the most successful Broadway productions in its entire history. History of Chicago

The musical, the reviews of which will make you look at it, might not have been born if there had not been a series of ... crimes. In March 1924, in the city of Chicago, the variety artist shot her boyfriend. This article was written by the journalist of the Chicago Tribune, Maureen Watkins. The criminal alleged that she was drunk to death, so she does not remember how she committed the murder. In April of the same year, Watkins released another material about a married woman who shot her lover under jazz accompaniment.

These and other love-criminal stories influenced the journalist, and she wrote the play "Chicago" in 1926. The musical, whose reviews confirm its success, appeared a little later, but immediately aroused the interest of the directors and producers. From the very first day, the jazz production fell in love with the audience, after 898 performances on Broadway and 590 in the West End the show was closed. However, in 1996, the efforts of Bobby Walter and Anne Rinking "Chicago" was revived with an updated choreography, decorations and costumes.
