The novel "The Captain's Daughter" written in 1836 by Pushkin is a logical continuation of the theme of "an insignificant hero," an ordinary man who can not boast of great wealth, influence, or serious connections. The main character is close to the people, has positive qualities of character, is kind, fair. The story is based on an insurrection led by Pugachev, but Pushkin did not set himself the goal of recreating historical events, against their backdrop he described the life stories of ordinary people.
General characteristic of Grinev

Shvabrin is very intelligent and much more educated than Grinev, but there is no kindness in him. This character was compared to a roll-field, a man without a clan, who could only adapt to different circumstances. Nobody loved and did not expect him, but nobody needs him either. At the end of the story, Shvabrin's black hair after the worries worsened, but his soul remained black, envious and spiteful.
Comparative characteristics of Grinev and Shvabrin
