Broad back muscles, athletic perspective

Wide back muscles (latissimus dorsi - lat.) Occupy the space between the shoulder blades and the waist. These muscles are flat, completely devoid of relief protrusions. They run from the lower thoracic vertebrae along the lumbar and sacral area to the pelvic musculature and up to the four lower ribs of the thorax. Wide back muscles are fused with the armpit, with the spine and intertwined with the vertical lateral musculature.

Functions

The functions of the latissimus muscle of the back in its upper part are focused on bringing the shoulder to the trunk, pulling the arm backwards with simultaneous rotation along the vertical axis. The muscle can stimulate breathing, moving the adjacent ribs. The dorsal latissimus muscle is very powerful, with a large margin of energy. It is commonly believed that she developed her phylogenetic development as a result of the centuries-old brachialism of a prehistoric man, when he moved along the method of monkeys, from branch to branch, hanging on his hands. And since this method of movement often became the main, the broad muscles of the back received development.

Anatomy

The anatomically broad back muscle is linked to the lumbar triangle by a bundle of tendons, its lateral part to the posterior edge of the oblique external abdominal muscle, and the bottom of this entire formation is the inner oblique flat muscle of the abdomen. At the level of the shoulder blades, the broad muscles of the back touch the trapezoid, but, despite such close proximity, these parts of the musculature are independent of each other. In the normal state, the dorsal muscle has a flat shape, but it assumes a significant increase in size.

Athletic value

Athletes are trying to pump the wide back muscles in the first place, since along with them, in a direct proportion, all nearby muscles increase. To get a relief inflated back, it is enough to perform a set of exercises for the main muscle of the back regularly. Experienced athletes know these subtleties and never inflate the trapezius muscles, which become excessively convex and disfigure the figure, making it disproportionate. Athletic pumping is performed due to traction with a heavy load, necessarily from the top down.

Training

For training the lower part of the broadest muscles, it is better to use dumbbells, gradually increasing their weight. Starting intensive training, remember that the upper muscle bundles have a lateral direction, and the bottom of the latissimus muscles of the back is directed up diagonally and laterally, covering the lower ribs, their back surface. In addition, the broadest muscle covers the lower part of the scapula and the round major muscle along its lower edge. Also this muscle duplicates the back wall of the axillary zone, touches the humerus and ends at the crest of its small hillock. Every athlete, knowing the anatomical structure of his muscular system, can feel which muscles actively participate in the pumping process, and which ones - only indirectly.
