What is a biological clock

A distinctive feature of all living organisms is the ability to change the processes of vital activity at exactly the right time. Such biological clocks exist both in simple unicellular organisms, and in the most reasonable being - man. The accuracy of these watches is amazing, and scientists studying this issue are constantly discovering new biological rhythms.

Many processes of the vital activity of the human body reduce their activity at night, and in the day they restore the intensity. The same thing happens with the senses. With the beginning of a new day, a person becomes aggravated by hearing, sight and other functions. This is the body's biological clock.

Many scientists are studying this issue. This is necessary to solve many issues. For example, the problem of insomnia torments a large part of the world's population. Also, after studying a person's biological clock, one can justify taking medications in strictly prescribed time.

The ability to control people's biorhythms will make it possible to achieve success in the treatment of many diseases, primarily neurological ones.

At the heart of the action of biological clocks lie precisely biorhythms. The entire period that the body passes from reduction to recovery of activity of physiological processes is called a cycle.

Biorhythms have an ecological and physiological character. Their duration can range from a few seconds to several days.

To the physiological rhythms include heartbeat, pressure, etc.

Ecological rhythms are associated with changes in the external environment. They can be diurnal, tidal or lunar and seasonal. These rhythms also serve as biological clocks. The organism thanks to them is perfectly oriented in time and begins to prepare in advance for each period and the conditions that it expects.

Thus, a person is full of strength in the morning, and by the evening the performance of certain functions of his body begin to decline. A biological clock is a very sensitive mechanism. Their work depends on many biochemical and hormonal reactions.

Melatonin plays the main role here. In another way, it is called the sleep hormone. By the evening, its amount in the body rises, and the person is fast asleep. This happens if the biological clock is working normally. Otherwise, people suffer from insomnia. In the daytime, the amount of melatonin decreases, its production is suppressed, and the functional capacity of the body is restored. People feel a surge of energy and are ready to work actively. If the biological clock is disturbed, the body is knocked off the rhythm and the cycles of sleep and wakefulness are mixed up.

The level of the hormone melatonin depends on the amount of light absorbed. Here, its main source are the eyes. They capture particles of light and transmit the signal to the epiphysis. Therefore, we can say that the main factor to which the biological clock obeys are particles of light.

In order not to disrupt the work of biorhythms, it is necessary to observe certain rules. First, reduce the amount of light at night, so as not to interfere with the production of melatonin. Secondly, it is necessary to give the body a full rest in due time. That is, go to bed on time, do not overload the body with work in the evening, turn off all foreign objects that interfere with rest (phone, tablet, laptop, etc.). Particularly affects the body work in the night shift. In this case, the whole cycle may be violated. Moving from one time zone to another also has a negative effect on biorhythms.

All these factors can disrupt the biological clock, which will affect the work of the whole organism. As a result, there is insomnia and disorders of a neurological nature.
