Are the tomato leaves turning yellow? Find out the reason

You planted the seedlings, looked after it, watered it well, but one day they discovered that the tomatoes were turning yellow in the seedling. This is the first warning of the plant, that something is wrong with it. It is worth paying attention to this, if in the future you do not want to lose most of the planned harvest.

Why does the seedling turn yellow?

Quite often, horticulturists have to face a variety of diseases that affect the harvest. However, scientists conducted a number of experiments and found that the leaves turn yellow for tomato seedlings for several reasons.

- Instability of the temperature regime, sharp changes can affect seedlings. To restore, start to observe the mode of ventilation.

- Lack of light can also affect the yellowing of the leaves. Sunlight is essential for photosynthesis, so increase its access to the plant.

- Lack of important nutrients in the soil leads to flocculation of the plant. To avoid this, simply carry out top dressing of the soil with nitrogen-containing fertilizers or cow manure (in the ratio 1:10).

Before planting new tomato seeds, process them Potassium permanganate (manganese). Even a solution of medium strength can neutralize seeds from possible pathogens, provide additional protection, significantly reducing the risk of the disease. With such a solution, spray can also be sprayed on the young shoots of the seedling.

"Adult" seedling turns yellow

Sometimes even after carrying out all the necessary preventive works after planting the plant, the leaves of the tomato seedling turn yellow. In this case, you need to check a few more reasons for the appearance of yellow leaves.

If the plant discards only the lower yellowed leaves, then this is a normal natural process. Thus, tomatoes get rid of unnecessary ballast, so that all the forces and juices go to the formation of inflorescences and fruits.

The situation is different if the tomato leaves turn yellow, not only the lower ones, but the upper ones, and the entire plant looks weak and lethargic. The cause of this may be fungal disease (fusariosis). The main distinguishing feature of this disease is the cracked stalk in places and its blackening.

Damaged plants can not be saved, so dig them out and burn them, and to prevent the disease, the remaining seedlings are best treated with biological products. For soil decontamination, add fertilizers rich in potassium and phosphorus.

Even the best tomato varieties can be susceptible to such disease as late blight. The appearance of brown spots on the leaves, yellowness and desiccation indicate that the plant is infected with this disease. The virus can easily overwinter in the soil on parts of plants, and in spring it infects young seedlings. To avoid the disease, treat the tomatoes with fungicidal agents, Bordeaux fluid, and reduce the soil moisture (for irrigation use drip irrigation).

Remember that it is better to prevent the onset of the disease than to remove it later. Timely processing of tomato seedlings with proper care will allow you to harvest a rich harvest of tomatoes.
