The amusement park "City Garden" has a long and interesting history. In 1883 local authorities decided to create a public garden in Tomsk. For him, they chose a site on the Novo-Sobornaya Square, along the Elanskaya Street (now Sovetskaya), between the Lutheran and Drozdovsky (now Sports) alleys.

In 1884 for this purpose was allocated a thousand rubles. Money was spent to plant a fir grove that marked the boundaries of the future garden. Two years later, in 1886, the device of the park was commissioned to deal with the vowels of the Duma: N.P. Gol'dobin, G.K. Tyumentsev and A.F. Gill. They invited outstanding scientist, creator of the Siberian Botanical Garden Porfiry Krylov.

To equip the "City Garden" (Tomsk), Krylov brought 682 specimens of subtropical, tropical crops and began creating a living herbarium, nursery medicinal plants, a collection of tree species. The main building of the university was divided into a park, now called the University Grove. In 1891 the garden was surrounded by an iron fence. They made it in Patrushev's workshops.

Further development

By 1895, the "City Garden", which Tomsk can be proud of, begins to play an important role in the life of the settlement. It is kept in perfect purity and order. Here, with pleasure walk the local people: sales clerks, craftsmen, schoolgirls, etc. On certain days in the garden played an orchestra, it held holidays and festivities.

The "City Garden" (Tomsk) got the attractions already in 1900. These were the first simple designs for games and sports activities. Seven years later, in 1907, the fountain adorned the "City Garden": Tomsk was delighted with this idea. The bowl for the pond was made by the Moscow firm "Brothers Bromley". She was well known in these places, because it was she who built the water in Tomsk. The mosaic fountain in the park was surprisingly good. He was recognized as the most beautiful in the city.

About the period of the park's history after 1917 and until 1946 very little is known. The photos are almost not preserved. Active return to public life occurred in early June 1946. It was the opening of the summer season in the garden. The poster of the holiday informed the townspeople about mass dances and games, learning popular songs accompanied by accordion, the performance of the choir of a vocational school. In July the first symphonic evening was held in the park, followed by a masquerade ball and a torchlight procession. Here, the townspeople also saw the first performances of the puppet theater. After the war, the park became a popular venue for fights in the French struggle.

In 1947, the "City Garden" (Tomsk) was significantly expanded. To do this, the Krylov street was closed. A little later, the territory from Herzen to Lutheran Lane was added to the park. At the same time the construction of a stone arch with cash registers at the entrance and columns began. In the summer theater they restored the stage, built make-up rooms. The former billiard room became a reading room and a branch of the House of Pioneers.

"City Garden" and today is very popular with local residents. Its most part is occupied by a deciduous grove. In the garden there is a small artificial lake, a pretty wooden town for children with a palisade and turrets.
