Aluminum wire: types and applications

The most common filler material for various types of welding is aluminum welding wire. This material is widely used in the technological processes of automatic and semi-automatic welding. Continuity of the process, high quality of the seam obtained, self-regulation of the feeding speed in the welding area - these are far from all the advantages that aluminum wire possesses.

A well-known rule is that the material of the welded parts should be similar in composition to the used filler. This condition becomes especially important, since it depends on it the quality of the weld, its durability and strength.

Aluminum wire is often used for welding metals of similar composition. For example, for automatic and semi-automatic welding of materials such as alloyed, carbon or stainless steel, as well as, of course, aluminum-manganese alloys and aluminum parts. Gas welding is best suited for welding filler wire on the seam.

Welding aluminum wire is a wire tape. It is a kind of flexible electrode that will perfectly replace the more fragile and costly elements that can be used during manual processing.

Aluminum wire is made from aluminum sheet by stretching and then cutting into parts of the required length. Firms-manufacturers are engaged in realization of many types of similar products.

Depending on the type of production, the aluminum wire can have different characteristics, different requirements can be presented to it. Consequently, the manufacturer must produce the required products. Whether the aluminum wire is of different length and cross-section, the buyer's requests must be satisfied.

Aluminum - a universal material that is characterized by sufficient strength and reliability, ease of use and high degree of flexibility, has a relatively low cost and low weight.

The following types of aluminum wire are distinguished:

  1. Powder coating.
  2. Copperplated.
  3. Stainless.

Each of these types has its own peculiarities of application. For example, the powder type is a small tube, inside which there is an aluminum mixture in the form of a powder. This prevents oxidation and slag formation, and also helps stabilize the burning electric arc. Stainless wire is used to connect chromium-containing stainless steel and nickel. In turn, copper plated is used for welding parts made of alloyed cast iron and steel, which helps to prevent splashing of the metal and get welded seams of high quality.

To obtain a high-quality weld, not only the selected filler material is important, but also other factors, such as the temperature of the weld zone and the degree of surface treatment. This means that the melting temperature of the filler material should not be greater than the melting temperature of the parts to be welded, while the metal surface must be clean and dry, without any oxides, scales and paint traces.
