Alexander Baranov was born in the city of Alma-Ata on March 20, 1955. He studied and grew up in Kazakhstan.

Training and the first film

His most cherished dream was always a movie. He wanted to shoot his own pictures. And after finishing school I decided to go to the State All-Russian Institute of Cinematography named after Gerasimov. Alexander managed to get through there the first time. Already in the new Russia, in 1996, the film "Shanghai" was released. Alexander Baranov worked on the tape immediately on three fronts: as a director, producer and screenwriter.

The film tells about a small area in the post-Soviet outback called Shanghai. People of different nationalities once lived and did not notice that their roots go far into the history of Europe or Asia. The pilot decides to land on a small runway. As a result, two lovers after 40 years meet.
