Adapting the air suspension "Tuareg": how to do?

Pneumatic is called a suspension, which can be adjusted by changing the ground clearance (clearance). On cars "Volkswagen Touareg" in the regular mode, the adjustment is automatic. The electronic control unit reads the information from the sensors and lowers the car body or raises it.

In a situation where the suspension was repaired or the rubber tires changed seasonally, the operation of the computer could become incorrect. The body of the machine warps or improper ground clearance is established. In this case, resort to adapting the air suspension to the "Tuareg".

The program for diagnosing VAS PC

To check and adjust the air suspension of VAG vehicles (Audi, Volkswagen, Seat, Skoda), a VAS diagnostic tool is used. The software for adapting the air suspension "Tuareg" VAS PS (PC) is available for installation on a personal PC. It has all the same functions as in the device.

Adaptation process

Using the Bluetooth or USB cable, the program is connected to the computer. We start the engine. Then:

  1. We connect (programmatically) to the air suspension control unit.
  2. Be sure to close all the doors so that the car does not warp.
  3. Turn on the "Adaptation" mode. After its inclusion, the correction must be carried out necessarily, otherwise the computer will give errors, and the suspension will decrease by a minimum value.
  4. Select channel "1", then "Read". The distance in mm from the hub (center) of the wheel to the arch appears.
  5. We do not take any action. In the automatic mode, the suspension adjustment begins. Air from the suspension is discharged, then pumped back. First, the front axle adapts, then the rear axle. We are waiting for the body to level off.
  6. Using the tape measure the distance of the front left wheel. Enter this number using the keyboard. We press "Test", then "Save".
  7. Go to channel "2" (front right wheel). Also choose "Read", we wait, when there will be an adjustment, we spend a measure and record, we test and we save.
  8. This algorithm is done with channels "3" (rear left) and "4" (rear right).
  9. Go to channel "5" and save the value "1". The ECU takes on new values, the suspension is re-aligned already taking into account the new data. In the process, access to any other channel is blocked.

For reliability, it is recommended to adapt the Tuareg air suspension twice.

At TO stations, an extended diagnostic kit is used. It includes a VAS device, a USB cable, a Bluetooth adapter and a laptop with software.

Possible errors in the adaptation of the suspension

If an "impermissible value" appears on the "Tuareg" when adapting the air suspension, you should first look for the cause in the connection cable of the computer and the scanner. Also, the inscription "invalid value" may appear when entering the distance from the hub to the arch. Sometimes the program "does not see" the data within certain numbers (for example, more or less than 15 mm). In this case, in order to lower the suspension by 3 mm, it is necessary to raise it by the number that is available, to carry out the "Test" and "Saving", and then lower it by a raised distance + 3 mm (raise by 15 mm, then lower by 18 mm).

When adjusting the clearance, the program can indicate the malfunction of some elements or sensors. Do not immediately change the spare part. For more accurate testing, you can use the diagnostic scanner VAG-COM.

To avoid the appearance of errors after repair, before lifting the car jack or to the lift, it is necessary to transfer the suspension to Jack Mode from the "Standard" position. Otherwise, the suspension will continuously adjust to the changing position of the car.

Malfunction of valves of adjustment of a road gleam

The problem with the front axle can be due to the ingress of moisture and dirt into the valve, sometimes into the pneumo balloon channel. The suspension does not rise at all or very slowly. This unit is checked by alternating the valves and simultaneously supplying compressed air into the receiver's tube opening.

To check the serviceability of the air cylinder, it is necessary to raise the suspension to the maximum height, mark the distance from the wheel axis to the arch from the right and left side. Leave in this position for 5 hours. Repeat the measurements. Values should not change. Otherwise there is a breakdown.

Using a soap solution, leakage from the screw-in hole of the check valve is determined. Visual inspection of the plastic housing also provides information on the condition of the airbag.

Silica gel in the desiccant should not contain moisture. If it does exist, you can dry it. The drying temperature should not exceed 150 ° C, otherwise the silica gel will lose its properties. Condensate is formed due to wear of the compressor pistons. Accordingly, he has to work longer. Overheating occurs. As a result, an error appears that has nothing to do with the valves. In this case, the compressor ring changes with the cylinder.

Sensor malfunction

The suspension malfunction indicator light is on in the dashboard. Before making the adaptation of the air suspension to the "Tuareg", it is necessary to diagnose the malfunction. If the check points to one of the sensors, then before you tune in to replace it, it is worth checking out, because it may be incorrectly installed, or simply left the contact.

The car is on the lift. We remove the sensor and inspect its housing. We study the contacts and wires. If there are signs of oxidation or deformation, the sensor will have to be replaced.
