A crossword puzzle is the puzzle that everyone knows. Currently, there are many variations of this entertainment, but one thing is for sure - crossword puzzles like to solve many. From this it follows that there are people who like to create them.

The creation of a crossword puzzle may be required for different purposes. Someone does them to check the knowledge of students, and someone for themselves and their friends. If you decide to create your own puzzle for the first time, Excel will help you in this.

Align cells

So, we begin to understand how to make a crossword in Excel. Many users already noticed that the Excel spreadsheet editor is great for creating crosswords, because it has the basic - the cells. Of course, these cells are not quite the right shape, so now we'll figure out how to give them the right kind.

To change the size in the first place, you need to select the entire program sheet so that the changes happen everywhere. For this, the easiest way is to press CTRL + A.

After selecting anywhere in the workspace, right-click (PCM) to open the shortcut menu. In it, you need to select "Line height". A small window with an input field appears, you need to specify the line height of 18 points and click the "OK" button.

So, we indicated the height, but the cells are still not exactly the right shape - you need to change the width. To do this, without discarding the selection, click on the PCM by the name of the column, for example, on the column F. In the context menu, respectively, select "Column Width". In the window that appears, enter the number 3 and click "OK."

As you can see, the size of the cells became square, which we needed. But this is only the first stage, as in Excel to make a crossword. Then it will be more difficult. By the way, the size of the cells you can specify your own, but keep the proportions.

Creation of cells

To create a crossword without cells is impossible, so the next step is to create them.

Initially, decide on the form of the crossword itself. You can use both the other for the sample and your own. Calculate which area it occupies, and measure it in the program. Let's say the crossword takes 11 by 9 cells, respectively, select this area.

Now you need to set the boundaries, for this we use the tool with the same name, which is in the "Home" tab in the "Font" section. Clicking on the arrow next to it will bring up a drop-down list in which you select "All borders".

Creating a crossword form

From the mass of our cells you need to remove those that interfere. For this it is very convenient to use the "Clean" tool, which is located on the toolbar in the "Edit" section, on the same tab "Home". By the way, this tool has a picture eraser.

All you need to do is alternately select extra cells and click on the "Clear" tool. If you press it and ask what method to clean, select "Clear All".

As a result, you should get the form that was originally conceived. As soon as you reach this, go to the next step.

Adding Numbering

Now you need to number the right crossword puzzle. You can do this in two ways: enter numbers in the cells themselves or number the cells side by side. In the example, we'll use the second option, since this is better for this crossword puzzle.

All you need to do is select the desired cell, enter the appropriate number and press ENTER. However, the numbers may be too large or, conversely, small, so give them the correct size. If you've done a crossword puzzle exactly as stated in the article, then the font size "8" is fine.

By the way, to make the numbering look better, you can place a digit in one of the corners, for example, in the lower right. To do this, select the desired cell and on the toolbar, in the "Home" tab, click in turn two buttons "Align to bottom edge" and "Align to the right". These buttons are located in the "Align" tool group.

In the end, you should get about the same as shown in the image below.

Also, do not forget that you can improvise by changing the size of both the cells themselves and the font. You can also completely change the font or change the location of the rooms.

Entering questions

Crossword in Excel has almost been created, it remains only to write down the questions that need to be answered. It is very easy to do this. Initially, decide where they will be inscribed. You can right, left, top or bottom of the puzzle - it's up to you. But the example will be on the right.

First, select an example area that will be occupied by the questions, and click on the "Merge" button. This button is located in the "Home" tab, in the "Alignment" group. Select "Merge Cells" from the drop-down menu.
