A variety of apples "melb" - a gift of autumn
Among the fruits that ripen in early autumn, the grade of apples "melba" occupies one of the leading places. Its popularity is due to high yield and excellent taste. This species reaches a removable maturity in August-September. "Melba" is a variety of apples that, under favorable conditions, last 3-4 months. At the same time, its fruits do not lose their commercial qualities. A sort of apples "melba" was bred by Canadian breeders in 1898. Work on the creation of this species was carried out by workers of the experimental station of Ottawa. It was created by sowing seeds of the "mackintosh" variety, obtained from its free pollination. For many decades of its existence, the apple tree has spread all over the world. This variety is also popular in Russia, where it is included in the State Register of almost all regions of the country.
Description
This apple is a middle-aged. It has a rounded crown. The branches differ in the brownish-orange coloration of the cortex. The apple-tree has a mixed type of fruiting, although the bulk of the crop is formed on the branchlets-shingles. In adulthood the tree fructifies periodically. Young, slightly drooping shoots have an average pubescence. Annual seedlings are thick, almost straight. They have a light cherry glossy bark. A characteristic feature of the "melb" variety are light green leaves with a yellowish tinge.
With good agrotechnics, timely irrigation and annual mineral-organic top dressing, young trees begin to bear fruit already for 4-5 years after planting 1-2-year-old seedlings. Entered in a time of active growth of apple trees yield a consistently high yield annually. Mature trees can bear fruit periodically. To stimulate good harvests, a rejuvenating pruning of the crown is often used. The main disadvantages of this apple tree are its susceptibility to scab disease, insufficient winter hardiness for northern latitudes and periodic fruiting in adulthood.
