Biography and creativity

Zdzisław Beksiński was born in Sanok. It is located in the southern part of Poland. In Krakow, he studied architecture. Then he returned to Sanok. For several years I was at the construction site as a foreman. He did not like the work very much. At that time Zdzislaw Beksiński became interested in painting, sculpture, montage and artistic photography. He proved to be an incredibly innovative master, especially for the communist country. Our hero created sculptures of wire, metal and gypsum. His photographs are stylistically similar to creations in painting. They portrayed wrinkled faces, uneven landscapes. The effect of these objects was enhanced by the play of light and shadow. Among the photographs of our hero there are also various heavy images. Later, he concentrated his creative efforts on painting. The first paintings of the artist refer to abstract art, but in the sixties, he gradually turns to surrealism. In the 1970s, the master entered a "fantastic" period. So he called it. This period lasted until the eighties. It was then that he created the most impressive images. In all the canvases, the master paid special attention to each, even the smallest detail. The pictures of our hero, as a rule, are very large in size. They differ in their intricacy. The artist himself believed that some of his works are misunderstood, because, in his opinion, they have optimism and some fun. Almost all exhibitions of the master were successful. It is believed that the first serious success came to him in 1964. Then the Warsaw exhibition took place. All the paintings on it were sold.

The tragic death

In 2005, on February 22, Zdzislaw Beksiński was found dead in Warsaw, in his own apartment. On his body were 17 stab wounds. Two of them were fatal. Soon the son of the commandant of the house was arrested, as well as his friend. They were found guilty. It is known that the artist refused to lend money to a young man shortly before his death.

Interesting Facts

Now you know who Zdzisław Beksiński was. The paintings of this master had a gloomy imprint. In this case, the artist himself was of a pleasant disposition. He was somewhat shy, but he enjoyed the communication. Zdzislaw Beksiński did not give his works names. He wrote on canvases prepared with his own hands. The artist hated silence, at the time of his work he listened, mainly, to classical music. The master's son was a big fan of the band called The Legendary Pink Dots. After his death, all the covers of the albums of the group were made out by the artist's paintings. Thus, the musicians decided to honor the memory of the master's son. Our hero is the only modern Polish artist who was exhibited in Japan at the Osaka Museum of Art. The master almost never visited museums or exhibitions.
