Yaselda River - description and description

The river Yaselda (the description can be read below) flows in the Brest region in the south-west of Belarus, is the left tributary of Pripyat. It flows through the Dnieper-Bug canal in the city of Pinsk, connecting with the river Mukhavets. Two reservoirs are built on it. Basically the swampy terrain prevails here, in some places one can observe the steep banks, which encircle the river Yaselda.

Description of the water flow (briefly)

Yaselda has the right tributary - Vinets Canal. Its length is 50 km. The river Zhegulyanka and the Oginsky channel belong to the left. Their length reaches 44 and 46 km respectively. The source passes through two lakes. In the Oginsky Canal the river intersects with Shchar.

The valley of the river is inexpressive, in some places it resembles a trapezoid. On Yaselda stands the city of Bereza, as well as villages and villages - Strigin, Vysokoe, Sporovo. The administrative border of the Brest and Grodno regions is near the source of the river. Near the town of Bereza and the village of Senin, the river is studied by two hydrolytic stations.

origin of name

Yaselda is a "river of gods". That is how its name is translated from Sanskrit. For the first time, the Indo-Europeans who came to its shores saw a deep, wide water stream in front of them, which stretched across numerous tributaries.

Then the river Yaselda began to bear the name of Asald. This contributed to the beauty, the surrounding terrain, which admired the local residents. "Asami" was called at that time the gods. This is how the Belarusian river got its own hydronym. The Slavs also came up with a more consonant name, which was pronounced expressively and charmingly - Yaselda.

Legends

People began to think why the river in their native lands is called Yaselda, and what is unusual about her name. Polesie aborigines composed many legends and legends. One of these legends speaks of Svyatopolk, a prince from Turov. As if he, while spending time hunting, met in the local places a girl who sang beautifully. Her voice enchanted the ruler, and he fell in love with her until unconscious, forgetting about state affairs, and also about his own family. The girl was called Yasya. People surrounding Svyatopolk were dissatisfied with the ruler's love: some wanted to kill the girl, others - to take away power from Svyatopolk. Worrying for her lover, Yasya rushed to the river that flowed in her native land, right on the shore where she first met the prince. Upon learning of her death, Svyatopolk for a long time could not come to his senses and grieved heavily. Later the ruler decided to name the stream in honor of his departed lover. This is how the river Yaselda appeared according to the legend. It is very interesting that in the Ivanovo region there is a village called Svyatopolk, through which a watercourse flows.

Next to those places in Motol, there is still a legend about Yasya and Aldu - a Belarusian young man and a Jewish girl who drowned in the river, saving their love.

Flow

The width of the valley is in different places from 4 to 8 km. At the beginning of the riverbed, where Yaseld is channeled, flow prevails at a speed of 1 km / h. According to the experience of tourists who visited the river, the water speed can sometimes reach 2.5 km / h. In general, the description of the river Yaselda is described in two words: calm and slow.

Vegetable world

The vegetation in the valley of the Yaselda is represented by alders, oaks, pines, birches. In the South-East and North-West the expanses are deforested, and the rest of the territory is mostly swamped. In general, the forest cover is about 30%. Most of the space is covered by grassy marshes on lowlands. The river refers to flat streams, so here the prevailing characteristic for the plains vegetation.

For many, the Yaselda River becomes a treasure trove of unique photographs. Here scientists and ordinary inhabitants come to enjoy the photo-hunting of animals and birds.

In the city of Bereza there is a biological reserve "Sporovsky", in it sheltered population of spitbill warbler. The administration of the Berezovsky district urges guests to visit Bezdezh, a village in the Drogichin district, which boasts a rich folklore and ethnographic originality.

If we talk about fishing, the main predator in the waters of Yaselda is the pike. In addition to it, there are carp, ruff, roach, tench in the river. Since sometimes trout, catfish and sturgeon are bred in the stream, they are bred at the local fish factory of the Seltsevoye reservoir, fishermen may be lucky enough to catch these kinds of fish.
