Windows 7: how much space after installation

Users who want to install or have already installed the operating system Windows 7, which is the most popular among all available, often wonder about the use of disk space by Windows 7. How many places this system can be initially determined by several factors. Actually, they will be discussed further on and some additional parameters.

Windows 7: how much does the distribution take?

As you know, you first need to install the system. But this requires an installation distribution. Usually, the installation does not take place from the hard disk (the files are written to optical or USB-media), but you need to know the size of the installer and its accompanying components, at least to estimate the space on the removable media.

Here you can not do without considering some of the features of Windows 7. How much space on the disk installer itself, directly depends on what kind of modification is supposed to be installed, whether there is a service pack in the downloadable package, etc.

If you look at the same links to torrent trackers, the average volume of the maximum version (and it is by far the most common) in the version with a 64-bit architecture is about 3.03 GB, and the version 32 bits (x86) is 2, 32 GB.

The question of how much takes the place of Windows 7 "Ultimate" after installation on a computer or laptop is ambiguous. The matter is that such contradictions are connected only with recommendations of developers only for the installation process to reserve as much as 20 GB. But that's not all. Only twenty "gigs" the user does not get off, as for the normal operation of the system during operation this will be clearly not enough.

How much space does Windows 7 take after installation: general provisions

But back to the use of hard disk. After installation using the standard distribution package, which already includes the SP1 update package (and for its normal operation it is necessary in any case), the fixed system for 32-bit versions takes from 5 to 8 GB, and systems with a bit width of 64 bits - from 11 to 16 GB.

Apparently, this variation concerns the versions of the system (Home, Ultimate) and their architecture. It is easy to conclude that the most important is the version of "Maximum", which includes the first service pack, and extended support for drivers, and some additional features or components that are not available in other versions (it's not about pirated assemblies and repacks ).

Issues of modifications and bit depth of the system

So, we have the installed OS. How much space does Windows 7 "Maximum" (64 bit) take? Again, the question is controversial. According to some estimates, with the first service pack it is somewhere around 13.6 GB (at least on SSD hard disk).

Another point to consider when answering the question about how much space is occupied by Windows 7 64-bit architecture: with an active connection to the Internet, the free space in the system partition (on drive C) starts to decrease instantly. Why?

Yes, only because the "Seven" with the default update service is immediately beginning to search for updates for the system itself, and even in the first phase, their size is about 4.8 GB. Thus, the occupied hard disk space already reaches 18.4 GB.

But that's not all. Updates do not disappear and are not deleted, and if the update is also included for other Microsoft products, it's not hard to imagine the size in the end this will result.

Cleaning the system partition

Now one more look at Windows 7. How much space the system takes with updates is already clear. But after all, almost all users want a hard drive a little clean.

In the simplest case, you can apply one of the most effective methods, which consists in using the built-in disk cleaning tool. And whoever says what, no program-optimizer for the following actions is not capable.

First of all, you should use the usual "Explorer", in which the right click on the system disk calls the context menu. A property section is selected from it. The first tab is the General tab. In its window there is a button for cleaning the disk, by clicking on which, you can activate the process of estimating the available disk space and the ability to delete unnecessary files without damage to the system. In the list of results are temporary installation files, memory dump files, etc. On all the lines you need to install checkmarks and delete all components.

Recommendations for the use of disk space

Developers give their advice on using the system partition. First, do not install the program exclusively on drive C in the ProgramFiles folder. If there is a possibility of installation in a virtual partition (for example, drive D), it is better to use this option.

Secondly, it should be noted that the "My Documents" directory, as well as the download folders, images, video or directory with the default activated shared access are located exclusively in the system section. You can view all these items on drive C in the Users folder. Therefore, it is recommended to save "heavy" documents in the form of films, music or projects like AutoCAD files exclusively in virtual partitions (and the documents will not be affected and the place will be saved).

Third, most importantly, for normal PC operation it is recommended to keep about 10% of the volume of the system partition free. And it does not matter how much space is allocated for it. Total 100 GB - 10 GB of free space. And to fall below the rate of 10 "gigs" is not recommended at all. And then, in fact, some fill out a folder of documents, as they say, under the string, and then complain that the system is slowing down. And what about virtual memory, because the place reserved for the file pagefile.sys is also not boundless? So it turns out that the system simply undergoes unnecessary load for no apparent reason.

Using optimizer programs

Reducing the free space can still be associated with the activity when working with the Internet. Temporary files, the cache is not a complete list of all the garbage that remains in the system, and its own resources are not deleted.

Here it is justified to use special software systems to care for the system. Most optimizers are able not only to remove unnecessary files, but also to remove incorrect or obsolete system registry keys, files and folders remaining after uninstalling programs, clean RAM and much more.

Conclusion

Above we briefly described the system of Windows 7. How many places it takes at a certain moment, it is difficult to say. As already described, only updates in the form of packages of updates, which are mandatory for installation, can occupy at least (if not more) the space allocated for a "clean" system. But the user should be careful not to bring his own computer or laptop to excessive clutter.
