Why is plastic bridles needed?

Anomalies in the development of the tongue bridles, as well as the upper or lower lip, can lead to very unpleasant consequences. Among the most common are the formation of clefts between the upper adjacent incisors (diastema), denudation of the neck of the tooth and its root, malocclusion, speech disorders, local gum disease with periodontitis and the difficulty of fixing the orthodontic apparatus.

Plastics of the frenulum of the tongue are often produced shortly after the birth of the child. After all, a frequent anomaly often leads to a difficulty in the act of sucking. The plasticity of the frenum in this case is carried out by means of its horizontal dissection. The wound acquires a rhomboid shape with complete liberation of the tongue, which makes it possible to suture, using the elasticity of the tissues dissected during the intervention.

The plasticity of the frenulum of the upper lip at normal dimensions of the vestibule of the mouth is carried out by excision (frenectomy) or dissection (frenotomy). It should be noted that it is no less effective to move the frenum fixation point relative to the gingival margin.

The plasticity of the frenum in case of insufficient length

To do this, make a midline, passing through the bridle. In this case, two flaps of triangular shape are formed, which subsequently move one another, after which they are fixed with synthetic threads or with a thin catgut. When performing surgery, do not forget about the location of hyoid papillas to avoid their injury.

With an anomaly in the development of the alveolar part of the lower jaw, often the bridle can be attached directly to the arc itself. In this case, it is dissected with an angular cut. The vertex is directed towards the alveolar part of the lower jaw. The flap on the underside of the tongue is peeled until it is fully released. The wound formed during surgical manipulation is tightly closed.

Excision of the frenum (frenectomy) of the lip, removal of the muscle and scarring cords near the mouth

Surgical manipulations in these cases are different. The plasticity of the bridle often consists of sewing the mucous membrane to the periosteum along the entire length of the gingival groove. The resulting wound is sutured along the entire length.

The plastic of the frenum of the lip, made for the purpose of elongation, is carried out by counter triangular flaps. The whole process of the operation is absolutely identical to that which is carried out with the bridle of the tongue.

The manipulations take a little time, usually about half an hour. The postoperative and recovery period after surgery is often seven days. The seams applied during the procedure dissolve independently after a short time. After plastic surgery, it is necessary to visit a qualified speech therapist who will give a number of recommendations regarding exercises for stretching the frenum, shaping the speech and strengthening the muscles of the tongue. It is possible that in some cases a light facial massage is required. For a while in the recovery period should abandon the rough and tough food.
