Mastopathy in men

Male mastopathy is a pathology characterized by the appearance of painful lesions in the chest. They are benign, that is, they are not able to develop into an oncological breast disease in the future. Mastopathy in men is much less common than in women. The most common form of this condition is gynecomastia - the growth of the mammary gland in men.

Mastopathy - symptoms, treatment

The main symptom of this pathology is the formation of neoplasms, which are detected directly during the examination (palpation) of the breast. Also important signs are pain at the touch to the breast, an increase in the size of the mammary glands and incomprehensible discharge from the nipples. Allocations can occur for a variety of reasons. The main ones are: an increase in the concentration of estrogen in the blood, the formation of neoplasms in the area near the nipple due to the intake of individual medicines. In addition, often mastopathy in men is combined with swelling of the breast without raising the threshold of its sensitivity. This is also an occasion to call a doctor.

Gynecomastia is the most common mastopathy in men, causing swelling of the tissues, usually caused by an increase in the level of estrogen in the body. The source of the hormone can be foods consumed in food, various food additives or individual medications. In most cases, men over thirty years of age suffer from gynecomastia, much less often teenagers.

Diagnostics

If a mastopathy is suspected, a direct physical examination is performed, during which the patient may be diagnosed with gynecomastia or single nodular formations in the mammary gland. The medical and diagnostic measures performed with suspicion of this pathology include: a blood test to determine the concentration of hormones, breast examination with the help of a mammogram and ultrasound apparatus, a biopsy.

Treatment

Mastopathy in men is treated depending on the cause that led to a similar condition. Most often for the removal of pain and discomfort caused by the formation of nodules in the glands, anti-inflammatory drugs of the non-steroid group are used. In special cases, a minor operation on the mammary gland, necessary to remove the neoplasm and study it for poor quality, can be prescribed.

For the treatment of mastopathy, the following measures are taken in men:

Mastectomy (lumpectomy) - removal of neoplasms in the mammary glands by an operative route.

Treatment with anti-inflammatory drugs of the non-steroid group, with which you can relieve pain in the chest (ketoprofen, ibuprofen, naproxen).

Use of antibiotics.

Compliance with diet. It is necessary to exclude from the diet tea, coffee, chocolate, cocoa, beer, reduce the consumption of fatty foods.

Causes of mastopathy can be different, but in any case it is desirable to quickly find out if possible by examining the doctor, and try to avoid any injuries and chest damage. It is also necessary to systematically survey, in order to detect the formation of new formations in a timely manner or the growth of existing ones.
