Who is bordered by Syria? Features of the geographical location of the country

Today, Syria and the theme of war in this country are all heard. However, not everyone can clearly imagine where she is. Who is bordered by Syria? And what are the characteristics of its geographical location? This will be discussed in the article.

Features of the geographical location of the country

The Syrian Arab Republic is one of the countries of the region called the Middle East. Historically and geographically, this is the land between Turkey and Lebanon. The landscapes of the country are rather monotonous - 190 thousand square kilometers of desert plains and mountain ranges.

Syria is one of the most ancient states on the planet. The first civilization arose in this territory in the IV millennium BC.

The geographical position of Syria has always been strategically important. Today the state is at the crossroads of two completely different worlds: Arab and Israeli, which only strengthens the political and military tensions in the country. Who is bordered by Syria? This will be discussed later.

Who is bordered by Syria?

This Middle Eastern country has few neighbors, only five. The countries bordering Syria are Israel, Jordan and Lebanon in the south, Iraq in the east, Turkey in the north. The country also has access to the Mediterranean.

Far from all states bordering on Syria can boast of warm and friendly relations with it. So, the most serious tension in the foreign policy relations of the republic is with Israel and Turkey.

In October 2012, a conflict arose on the Syrian-Turkish border. Several shells fell on Turkish territory, killing five people. In response, the Turks opened fire on the neighboring state. The conflict was not exhausted: Syria more than once accused the Turkish side of financing terrorist organizations (the so-called Syrian militias). For its part, the NATO alliance handed Turkey six powerful Patriot systems, which she placed on the problem area of its border.

In Syria today live no more than 18 million people. How many people left this country because of the war, as nobody knows.

The war in Syria: what's going on there?

Starting in 2011, the civil war continues in the republic. Many people know about this, but not all imagine what is happening there actually.

Four years ago, a series of revolutions swept through Syria, called the Arab spring. The purpose of popular outrage was the overthrow of the Assad dynasty, which has been in power in the country for half a century. However, Bashar Assad brutally suppressed protests with the help of the army. All this quickly grew into a bloodbath - a civil war.

The situation in Syria is complicated by the fact that this war was used by the third force - the terrorist organization IGIL. In her plans - the capture of the entire Middle East and the creation of a single Islamic state. Thus, modern Syria is literally divided between four forces: part of its territory is controlled by the republican troops of Assad, some by oppositionists (rebels), and other lands by IGIL fighters. In addition, the country's border with Turkey is under the control of the Kurds.

Finally...

Now you know with whom Syria borders. These are the five Middle Eastern states: Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq and Turkey. For the fourth year in a row, this republic has suffered from a brutal civil war.
