White Dobermans - exotic or reality?

Thuringian Pinscher, Doberman Dog, Doberman Pinscher or just Doberman - names of the same breed of dogs, derived relatively recently.

Dobermans are used by humans as bloodhounds, watchdogs and guide dogs.

History of the origin of the breed

The breed was bred by the German tax collector Friedrich Luis Dobermann at the end of the 19th century.

The position occupied by Friedrich was fraught with danger, and he needed an aggressive dog, capable of protecting him, and at the same time not requiring special care. Dobermann was the owner of a shelter for stray dogs, so it was not difficult to realize his plans for him. Crossed the breeds of dogs, characterized by aggressiveness, endurance and high watchdog qualities - the German pinscher, rottweiler, Manchester terrier and crooked, Dobermann shortly brought out the type of dog he needed. Subsequently, the breed was bred after its owner and became known as the Doberman.

Distinctive features of the breed

The Doberman breed stands out with its elegant and proud look. This is a fearless, muscular and quick-witted dog - qualities that allow the Doberman to be used as a guard and watchman. Developed sense of smell promotes the fact that the Doberman is considered an unrivaled bloodhound. The dog is strongly attached to the owner and members of his family, does not trust strangers, is moderately aggressive. If training to develop these qualities, then from the Doberman comes an excellent guide.

Are there white Dobermans

In the 70s of the last century, an attempt was made in the United States to bring out a Doberman breed with white wool. The albino was born from ordinary parents. When she reached puberty, she was crossed with a Dobermann of traditional color, but there was no white pup in the litter. White Dobermans appeared as a result of crossing a mother-mote with her son. These dogs served as the progenitors of all Doberman albino dogs found in the United States. Therefore, a white-colored doberman is considered an incomplete or partial albino. The fixing of the obtained result did not make sense, since the deduced white specimens did not differ in their wit, had unpredictable behavior, were susceptible to various diseases due to low immunity. Like all albinos, they lack the genes responsible for pigmentation, and are doomed to suffering, but that does not mean that white Dobermans do not have a right to exist.

Why FCI does not recognize Dobermann albinos

Prior to the beginning of the last century, only black with the tan color of this breed of dogs was recognized. Later, another color was taken for the standard - brown with a tan. White Dobermans until recently were born extremely rarely, were considered a deviation from the norm and were rejected.

Not so long ago, a new, so-called blue and isabel color of dogs of this breed was brought out by American and British cynologists. But the International Cynological Federation (FCI), which approves breed standards, does not recognize this clarified color in Dobermans. And for this, FCI has quite reasonable explanations: light and white Dobermans have weak health and have a number of problems of the genetic level. They suffer from photophobia, which adversely affects the watchful and working qualities of dogs of this breed, and their further breeding is considered inexpedient.

Is it worth buying a white Doberman puppy?

It's no secret that a person loves everything unusual, and the temptation to get a Doberman puppy with white hair is quite large. Sometimes dishonest and money-averse dog breeders try to impress their potential customers that they breed white Doberman dogs. The price of albino Dobermans is sky-high, but in fact, in the pursuit of profit, you will be sold sick animal with weakened immunity. For fans of the breed, private sellers can buy a Doberman puppy at a price of 15 to 35 thousand rubles. But in the nursery the price can reach 60 thousand rubles. For white Dobermann prices from owners can be twice as much. But is it worth so much to spend? While the puppy is small and he has enough strength to fight for his existence, birth defects are almost invisible. But over time, the dog becomes more nervous and cowardly, lost, getting into unfamiliar conditions. More and more attention has to be paid to the state of her health - the animal develops skin diseases, there are problems associated with the activity of the thyroid gland, there is already a rare coat and the dog is bald.

In order not to jeopardize the gene pool of the breed as a whole, it is not recommended to breed dobermans with blue or isabel color.

How to choose a Doberman puppy correctly

The Doberman breed is finding more and more adherents. However, before buying a dobermann puppy, think carefully, whether you will be able to create the conditions necessary for proper development and for what purpose you need a dog of this breed. Choose who will be more preferable for you - a dog or a bitch.

A healthy and thoroughbred puppy should have dark eyes, a long neck, a strong, almost square body. Twisted limbs and light spots are defects. It is believed that the more pronounced the tan, the stronger the immune system of the animal.

A 1,5-month-old puppy should have a tail cut - the wound by this time should already heal. At the same age Doberman puppies can start to stop ears, so if you do not have enough experience in breeding dogs, you can buy a pet with already cropped ears.

Up to 3 months of age the puppy should be vaccinated against leptospirosis, plague and parvovirus infection.

A puppy card must be issued to the new puppy for the purchased puppy.
