When was Berta Benz born?

Cecilia Berta Benz is a unique and great woman. How did she become famous? When was Berta Benz born? We will talk about this later.

Born Berta Bence May 3, 1849 in the family carpenter Carl Friedrich Ringer. She was a very nice young girl of German nationality. And her husband, Karl Benz, was a famous German pioneer of the world automobile industry. The popularity of this woman is that she made the world's first motor rally. Thanks to Bert, at present we are happy with different types of cars and watch traffic jams.

Marriage

When she turned 23, on May 20, 1878, she successfully married Karl Benz. A chance acquaintance of a beautiful couple happened exactly at the meeting of Karl with his partners, where the topic of the new project in the scientific sphere was just discussed. The girl Carl was able to captivate his story, so much so that Berthe instantly canceled her engagement with Wilhelm, despite all the excuses of her father. Karl fell in love with the girl. They immediately began to meet. Soon the couple became husband and wife. This marriage lasted the whole subsequent life. Berta Benz and her husband raised five beautiful children.

An important decision to help

Bertha Benz, whose photo you can see in the article, always helped her husband in his affairs, supported both morally and financially. Even before the wedding, the organization Carla suffered huge financial losses. Berta, without getting lost, makes a decision to help her future husband, and gives him all his dowry, accumulated by the father. These funds greatly helped Carl to design a new engine. But the money quickly ended, as the carpenter's savings, unfortunately, were not large. At that time two boys appeared in the family: Eugen and Richard. Biography Berta Benz was at this time not the most joyful. She cooked dinners almost from nothing. The family was starving. The woman was as strong as she could. Karl all this time actively and diligently worked on his new projects.

My husband's first car

In the end, their joint efforts did not pass without a trace. In 1885, Carl created the so-called "self-propelled wheelchair." It had a single-cylinder engine with a power equivalent to the power of one horse. The weight of this engine was only 60 kg. At that time it was very little. Take for comparison the engine "Deutz" - its weight was 660 kg.

At that time, people had different attitudes to any discoveries in science and technology. But, despite the ridicule of the surrounding residents, Karl continued to work on his projects, and by 1988 he had released several more similar machines. They differed from the first model and were much better in everything. One of them was a cabriolet (a car with an awning from above, which served as a good shelter from rain or other bad weather).

But all projects failed, there was no demand for such developments. Residents with caution and contempt considered technical novelties and asked themselves the question: "Why create self-propelled motor carriages, if there are horses in the streets?"

The journey of Bertha and her sons on the first car

Berta Benz, whose personal life was the best, looked at everything happening first of all with her feminine gaze, understanding that any work needed a certain demonstration. People needed to be informed and show the advantages of the machine. Prove that such a transport is much better than a conventional horse cart.

On the basis of her reasoning on May 5, 1988, Bertha made a fateful decision. Not notifying his husband about his venture, takes his car and goes with his two sons in a road trip. Behind the wheel was the eldest, 15-year-old son of Eugen. They went to Pforzheim, the city where the parents of Bertini lived. The speed of movement was about 15 km / h. The approximate distance covered by the day was about 106 kilometers.

During the trip, forced stops were made for the purchase of gasoline in pharmacies, it was sold there as a cleaning product called "Ligroin". This fluid at that time was used as fuel. The sale was carried out in very small bottles.

Road adventures

During the trip, there were very interesting road adventures. The initial cause of the breakdown was the brakes. When the car was driving at high speed along the descent of the road, and even before the turn, the brakes were smoking, or rather the pads of leather. The children were very frightened, but Bertha did not lose her head again. Here she played the status of the wife of the car builder, and at that moment she shouted: "Everyone make a tilt on the turn side!" Thanks to the right decision, they avoided a car crash. New brake pads were purchased from the shoe maker, in a nearby village.

The next failure in the trip was a metal chain, which stretched during the trip. This problem was solved by one of the village smiths. Berta did not lose a second, while the stretched chain was being repaired, she organized a miracle of technology surrounding the crowd of mini-presentation, emphasizing all the best qualities of the car. Present ladies were very envious of Bertha, because they also really wanted to ride on such a wagon. It can be emphasized that the speech of Bertha Bentz made a great impression on the people, as everything was clearly represented and shown.

An interesting fact is that with the help of her hair barrette, Bertha was able to fix the gasoline pipeline, which was clogged during the trip.

But that is not all. When there was an electric piercing of the wire under tension, Bertha with the help of a stocking garter made insulation in the ignition system.

Thus, an interesting, fascinating and useful trip of Bertha and her children to Pforzheim from Mannheim was made. About their arrival, they wrote in a telegram to her husband, who by that time was already on his nerves and very worried about his family, not even imagining what could happen to them.

Improving the car

Sons of Carl completed the model of the car: they made lanterns for the night travel time, added a second gear and multiplied the number of revolutions. All this was thought out as a result of this test trip to my grandmother.

In the end, we can conclude that if it were not for Charles's wise and risky wife, Bertha Benz, the model of the car that was created would remain so simply as a mock-up, as well as many other similar inventions. And only after tens of years, all the preserved achievements in science acquired great meaning.

First orders

Berta Benz, a real motorist, immediately thought of the value of such a machine: it's easy and fast moving people, as well as cargo without much physical effort. Throughout the world, changes have taken place thanks to the usual German girl, the carpenter's daughter.

The trip was very impressive for the people, and after a while Carl Benz began to receive orders for the creation of more and more new cars. Carl sold about 25 cars in 1893. They were cars like Motorwagen (which means "engine crew" from Germany), which are tricycles designed for only two people. Their approximate speed was about 16 km per hour. This machine was started by means of electric ignition, which took its energy from the galvanic battery. As a fuel, as before, was "Ligroin". The entire motor was put into operation only after the driver manually picked up the flywheel speed. And instead of the steering wheel at that time was installed steering lever.

Soon Karl Benz developed an improved model Velo.

Family comfort

The wife no longer had to get into the affairs of her husband. In all she did it twice for her life. The first, when I gave all my savings, and the second - a risky "advertising" trip on an unknown at that time technique. The rest of her life was spent by Bertha, taking care of home comfort. The family business was established, and all financial difficulties were solved.

Death

In 1944, a great woman died. She was 95 years old. She survived her husband for 15 years. In the city of Pforzheim Rene Dantes installed a sculpture in honor of Bertha and her long trip.

Berta Benz: Interesting Facts

An interesting fact was the name of the route in honor of B. Benz. According to her in 1888, the woman made her great journey, which became a huge event in the life of the Benz family. In 2008, in February, this track was recognized as a monument of the history of industry in Germany.

In 2011, the German director Til Endemann, taking for the plot a joint autobiography of Karl and Bertha Benz, made a feature film. It was given to the viewer for the 125th anniversary of the appearance of the car. It was viewed by about 4.5 million spectators.

Today we can not imagine our life without motor transport, and all thanks to the great woman Berthe Benz and her husband Karl.
