What is the tire speed index?

The selection of the correct rubber includes consideration of a variety of factors such as chemical composition, profile height, tire width and height, cord designs, radius and tire speed index.

All the variety of tires is divided into radial and diagonal, with the camera inside and without it. Each of these types of tires has its own distinctive features and characteristics.

The tire speed index is the designation of the maximum speed that a tire installed on the machine with maximum load can carry. This value is standardized and has the status of an international model.

This criterion is denoted by Latin letters. This characterizes the category, and therefore the most important component. For example, the tire speed index r, q, l, m, k, vr, zr, and so on.

Firms manufacturing manufacturers of modern tires, test selective tires from the general batch. This allows you to calculate the average tire speed index in the best condition.

Therefore, this criterion does not extend its influence on damaged or repaired tires. Nevertheless, if a letter designation equivalent to the permissible speed is indicated on the side of the tire, in this case everything is simple. It is only necessary to find the appropriate table and determine the required value from it. However, if the value of the speed index is not written, then by default it is considered that the maximum permissible speed regime should not exceed 110 kilometers per hour.

The tire load and speed index are two very important but very different concepts. These indicators have a significant relationship with each other. On high-quality tires, the values of these two indicators are necessarily placed on the side of the tire.

The load index is an international standardized designation that indicates the maximum value of the allowable load in terms of each tire. Another name for this coefficient is the load index (load factor). However, many foreign manufacturers say not only alphabetic, but also digital designation. Often, this value is indicated in pounds or in kilograms.

A lot of car owners believe that in order to learn the load index, you only need to divide the car mass by the number of wheels. However, such an approach reveals a significant error. To obtain a more accurate result, it is necessary to take into account some factors and tire speed index.

Nevertheless, the small value of the load index makes it possible to make the ride process softer and smoother, more comfortable, and also less noisy. The low value of this indicator has not only advantages, but also drawbacks, one of which is the rapid wear of the tire, and therefore a short service life. On the contrary, tires with a high index of load capacity are characterized by high mechanical strength, wear resistance and rigidity.

Each manufacturer recommends the use of a specific type of tire, so you need to listen to his advice.
