What is the difference between Brugada syndrome?

According to experts, Brugada syndrome is classified as primary electrical heart disease with a very high risk of so-called "sudden aritimic death". This ailment, as a rule, is accompanied by a high incidence of ventricular fibrillation, as well as a rise in the ST segment.

Epidemiology

It is believed that Brugada syndrome is diagnosed with a frequency of 4 to about 12% among all the available cases of sudden death from various types of heart disease. According to experts, specifically this ailment is 10 times more common among the male half of the population.

Primary reasons

At the moment, the final causes of this ailment have not been fully studied. However, doctors are confident that when mutating the genes of the so-called "sodium channels" SCN5A, the probability of a sequential development of the disease is great.

Syndrome Brugada: ECG, signs

First of all it should be noted that the primary symptoms, as a rule, appear in people after forty years. So, doctors allocate the following factors, evidencing the presence of the disease:

  • Attacks of respiratory failure mainly at night;
  • Syncopal states;
  • Polymorphic ventricular tachycardia;
  • Episodes of ventricular fibrillation.

Treatment

With such a diagnosis as Brugada syndrome, the ECG primarily shows possible deviations in the patient's health from the norm. As a first-line treatment, specialists most often prescribe the drug "Quinidine" and some other means, including the drug "Isoproterenol". As for the latter, it is considered a very effective medicine that can literally suppress the "electric storm" that occurs in patients with this disease at night. As the main method of preventing the so-called "sudden death" of the patient, doctors recommend installing a cardioverter-defibrillator. It should be noted that if the Brugada syndrome was diagnosed, then in the absence of external manifestations of the disease, it should nevertheless be constantly observed by specialists. However, implantation of the above-described cardioverter-defibrillator is not required in this case.

Preventive measures

At the moment, Brugada syndrome is diagnosed relatively rarely. As a preventive measure, doctors are strongly recommended to undergo a regular examination. It involves conducting all the basic diagnostics, including ECG, blood tests, urine tests. The thing is that it is these components that can be used to judge the presence of problems in the body. It should be noted that in the presence of close "relatives" of this diagnosis, a detailed survey should be conducted, which in turn involves the definition of the so-called "baseline risk", as well as subsequent monitoring of the patient for a long time depending on individual health indicators . Only in this way, as practice shows, it is possible to avoid a fatal outcome, possible subsequent complications, and also to prevent the ailment at the earliest stages of development. Be healthy!
