What is rubber-bitumen mastic?

Rubber bituminous mastic is a multicomponent mass, a mixture of tar or oil bitumen. Typically, for its use using substances such as fillers fibrous and pulverulent. Its qualities of heat resistance and hardness of the mastic acquires due to the absorption of oil on its surface.

The composition of this material includes the following components:

  • rubber;
  • Petroleum bitumen;
  • Solvents;
  • Fillers;
  • Plasticizers.

Rubber-bitumen mastic serves to isolate underground and surface structures from steel, structures, pipelines. It is often used in the repair of bathrooms, loggias, when creating wooden structures, swimming pools. Mastic bitumen insulating protects from the appearance of corrosion. This substance does not contain toxic solvents and toluene.

Classification

The material can be characterized by various features. Given the type of connecting elements, there are bituminous, bitumen-rubber, bitumen-
Polymeric. Depending on the method of use, hot, cold, preheated pre-set temperatures that do not require heating, but with an ambient temperature of more than 5 degrees, are isolated.
The most common is differentiation by purpose. Mastic rubber-bitumen used for various purposes: insulating, gluing, asphalt, anti-corrosion.

Application

If you set a goal to glue roll materials that will be used for waterproofing or mounted on multi-layer roofing, then it is better to use adhesive mastics. But there are some nuances concerning roofing bituminous materials. For example, for gluing rolls of pergamene or roofing material rubber-bituminous mastic is suitable. If you overlap the roof is not so durable material, then apply the tar pitch.

In the case where it is necessary to create a cast or plaster waterproofing or an astringent type of material for the production of boards is necessary, it is better to use an insulating mastic.

For serious objects (for example, hydraulic structures) or for pouring waterproofing joints, use a hot bitumen-mineral variety. It is made from the same bitumen with the addition of mineral filler. These impurities can be in the composition of 30 to 64% (depending on requirements and conditions).

Work with material

Rubber-bitumen mastic is applied by a mechanized method in several layers. The result is a total thickness of 10 millimeters. More than one hour of the process of grasping. You can use and manual application with a brush or strokes, if there is such a need. If within 48 hours the ambient temperature will remain at 20 degrees, then during this period, complete drying will occur. If the temperature is below 15 degrees, then working with this material is highly undesirable. In a confined space it is necessary to ensure normal flow ventilation. It is important to observe safety techniques, since hot mastics need to be heated up to 180 degrees.
