What is ambition? Answers, examples, tips

In this article, let's see what ambition is. In fact, this word is not as harmless as it seems. Later we will find out why. First, you need to first look at the translation of this word from the Church Slavonic. Many contemporaries, especially young people, are confused in the concept or have not heard at all. Secondly, let us list the examples in more detail in order to understand what ambition is. Definition of this word, of course, it is better to give a clear and clear. Let's say there is a word for "honors". Not everyone knows what it is. And we immediately get an answer: an evaluation of yourself in the performance of an action.

What does it mean?

What is ambition? It is better to give a simple and clear answer at once. Ambition is a love of honors. What do they mean? Have you seen how people are trying to take the first place, to lead in any sphere of life? They can be called ambitious people.

Believe me, "chasto" does not mean "honest", the word "honor" prevails here. If you divide the word "ambition" into two halves, you will get "honor" and "love." What do we get as a result? To love honor, strive for it. Here you can include fame, leadership, praise in your address.

Ambition is a sin

Let's look at the Christian point of view. Ambition in the Orthodox world is a sinful act. A Christian should not be so, because it upsets God. A person should be humble, not stand out among others. Jesus Christ himself during his lifetime avoided fame, honor, when he healed the sick. Such an example is described in the Holy Gospel.

It is necessary to avoid such a vice as ambition. What is it? Why vice? After all, any victory brings joy. In fact, such a joy is deceptive. In the Gospel there is such an episode where Christ speaks a parable about the first and last places: who sits of the invited in the first row, he will be asked to sit down at the furthest place. And the one who sat modestly and very far away is invited to take an honorable place next to the master. And Jesus finished this parable roughly like this: The Kingdom of Heaven is like this parable.

As modern priests say, ambition is the desire to strive for glory, recognition, majesty. But this is inherent in all the proud person.

Ambition for a contemporary

What is ambition for modern man? In fact, different kinds of aspirations existed at all times. For example, a young man dreams of becoming an athlete. He is asked: "Why, why?". If he answers: "I want to become a great champion in the world, so that I have rewards, respect!". Ambition here on the face. The most vivid and accurate example.

Let's consider another option. The man got a job. He is a simple employee with a small salary, but he has the ability to manage. He has a big family, he does not have enough money. For the sake of relatives, and also for the sake of colleagues, he seeks to become a leader. Becoming a director, he earns for the family, honestly pays salaries to employees, helps them, strives to be everything else. Can such a person be called ambitious? Of course not. On the contrary, if a simple worker dreamed of becoming a director with the goal of leadership and honor, he most likely would not become a subordinate friend and assistant.

How not to be ambitious?

Suppose a person kneels before God, with all his heart he asks for forgiveness for having a pride: he looked down on others and sought to be considered the most important, best of all. And now he is ashamed, his conscience is tortured. He does not need this anymore. He wants to change.

We examined what ambition is. And now let's see what can be the opposite of this vice. As a rule, a person is modest, quiet, invisible. He only obeys unquestioningly, he obeys, if, of course, the request or order does not run counter to his conscience.

Anyone who rejects ambition will say for example: I do not need a prize, let it get to another.
