Parents Lermontov and their biography. What was the name of Lermontov's parents?

Mikhail Yurievich Lermontov is the genius of the Russian poem. He knows a lot about his life and work, much less about his mother and father. Parents Lermontov - people are not a simple fate. Their life and love were rather tragic.

Portraits of father and mother M. Yu. Lermontov

It is known, as the parents of Lermontov, that they belonged to the nobility. Up to the present, only a few portraits of unknown artists have come down. In the pictures, a thin girl, morbid and surprisingly sad, and a young man - Lermontov's parents. Portraits left a memory of what these people were like, who gave the world a great poet.

Maria Mikhailovna Arsenyeva (Lermontov)

Mother of Mikhail Yurievich Lermontov - the only daughter of Elizabeth Alexeevna and Mikhail Vasilyevich Arseniev - was born on March 17, 1795. The girl was a fragile, sickly child. After experiencing the death of her father at the age of 15, she more and more went to reading books and practicing music. As noted in her memoirs, people who knew her, she enjoyed reading sentimental novels that brought her wonderful dreaminess, disturbed the imagination of the young girl.

Maria Mikhailovna was very musical: she played the clavichord and performed sensitive romances, the words of which were recorded in her albums, there were also sentimental elegy about love and separation, friendship and betrayal, French acrostics. We can say that Maria Mikhailovna was an ordinary provincial lady, one of those, which is written in many novels. In Tarkhany, the family estate of Maria Mikhailovna, she was remembered as a man strikingly kind and sympathetic. It was said that a thin, pale lady walked through peasant houses and helped people.

The love of Maria Mikhailovna Arsenyeva (Lermontova)

A characteristic feature of the sensitive nature of Maria Mikhailovna was emotional tension, expressed in impetuosity: the girl always tried to defend her desires, to prove her rightness, sometimes even contrary to the opinion of her relatives.

So it happened, when the future parents of Lermontov, the great poet, met. Maria Mikhailovna met the recently retired, young, handsome officer Yuri Petrovich Lermontov. Firm in the decisions, Maria Mihajlovna at once declared, what is it that person whom she searched, what exactly he should become its elect. The future parents of Lermontov fell in love with each other. Their biography is intertwined.

Rodnya strongly objected to this marriage, and this was the reason: being descended from the Stolypins, the Arsenievs were proud of their noble family, their condition allowed them to have important connections at court. All this did not allow her mother to happily agree to the marriage of her daughter and Yuri Petrovich. But, in spite of this, Lermontov's future parents did not give up.

Yuri Petrovich Lermontov

Lermontov's father, Yuri Petrovich, although he was a nobleman, but did not belong to a noble family, did not have any special achievements in the service. It was this that worried the relatives of Maria Mikhailovna. The only thing that the chosen one could be proud of was his ancestor. Georg Andreev Lermont was from Scotland. Autumn of 1613 was adopted in the Moscow State, where to him in 1620 was granted an estate in Halych Zabolotskaya volost.

By tradition of a kind, Yuri Petrovich Lermontov chose a military career. He graduated from the First Cadet Corps, which was in St. Petersburg, served in the Kexholm Infantry Regiment. Yuri Petrovich participated in the war with Sweden and France, was in the battles. Due to a serious illness, he was dismissed from military service in the rank of captain. Despite his health, during the war with Napoleon, in 1812, he took part in the gentry militia organized in the Tula province. Lermontov's father's health noticeably shaken, he was forced to be treated for a long time.

Marriage of Yuri Petrovich and Maria Mikhailovna

Indeed, Maria Mikhailovna's chosen one, in the opinion of many, was remarkably good-looking, well-read and "heard," charming, kind and slightly short-tempered, which gave him an especially romantic image. Yuri Petrovich had a significant defect - he was poor: debts, permanently mortgaged estate, three sisters unmarried - all this did not make him an attractive bridegroom, according to the reflections of his mother. Elizaveta Alekseevna believed that the captain in retirement is not capable of any business, and can only take care of the young ladies. As it turned out, the mother's heart was not mistaken.

But Lermontov's future parents were standing on their own. Their biography reports that they were firmly convinced of their intention to get married. In particular, Maria Mikhailovna confidently stood by her. And Elizaveta Alekseevna allowed this marriage. In 1811, the engagement took place, and in 1814 in Tarkhany - a lavish wedding of the young.

Family life of Lermontov

Mikhail Lermontov's parents were not happy for a long time. Maria Mihailovna not without reason reproached her husband for numerous changes. Once, with the next scene, Yuri Petrovich lost his temper and in a fit of anger very strongly hit his wife with his fist in the face. The nervous shock exacerbated the illness of Maria Mikhailovna: the consumption began to develop, which prematurely brought the young mother to the grave.

Later, Lermontov-son recalled how much his father cried when his mother was buried. But it was already impossible to return anything. Little Misha was left without a mother, his father - without a wife. Neither Elizaveta Alekseyevna, the grandmother of the great poet, forgave her son-in-law, she considered all his life to be his fault in the death of his only daughter.

Separation of father and son

After the death of his wife, Lermontov's father moved to his ancestral estate in the Tula Volost. He left little Misha in the care of his grandmother, Elizabeth Alekseevna, who made great efforts not to give her only grandson to her father. In her opinion, and not without reason, Yuri Petrovich was not able to raise his son the way an aristocratic family wanted: he could not spend several thousand a year teaching the child languages, drawing, music and much more.

There is an unconfirmed version that Elizaveta Alekseevna offered her son-in-law 25 thousand rubles for not interfering in the education of a small Michel. Indeed, the grandmother, having a huge fortune, thus made a will that the grandson will be her only heir only if the father does not take part in his upbringing. With such a difficult condition, Yuri Petrovich was forced to agree, and the relationship between father and son has since been limited to rare meetings.

Despite everything, the relationship between father and son differed in mutual affection: they had a hard time bearing separation, their brief meetings brought joy of fellowship, but the partings were painted with desperate bitterness. Father always followed the progress of his son, was proud of what he does, believed that Misha had a brilliant future. And I was not mistaken.

Yuri Petrovich Lermontov died on October 1, 1831, he was buried in the village Shipovo Tula province. Later, in 1974, the ashes of the father of the great poet were transported to Tarkhany.

Family Tragedy

Lermontov's parents had a difficult fate. The family tragedy of a child who grew up without parents was reflected in his work. He spoke many times about his grief - his mother's early death, about the "terrible fate" of living away from his father, not being able to communicate with someone he loved immensely. History has preserved not only the names of Lermontov's parents, but also the sad pages of their biography.

Elizaveta Alekseevna Arsen'eva was able to survive all: an early-dead single daughter, Marya Alekseevna, the unloved son-in-law of Yuri Petrovich, whom she always considered guilty of the death of her daughter. And the one who was the meaning of her life, her grandson Misha. The great poet Mikhail Yuryevich Lermontov was killed in a duel on July 15, 1841.
