What is a harness for cats, and why is it needed?

A cat is not a dog, it does not require daily walking. However, if you have a cat, remember your remorse in the fine days: you yourself go for a walk, and the pet stays in a stuffy room. Yes, and doctors recommend taking cats with them to the street: in their opinion, from boredom the pet can become nervous, start scratching furniture or running around the house. These animals are very curious in nature, and walking is another way to expand the cat's horizons.

But before you bring your pet to the street, you need to buy a suitable "ammunition" for him. It includes a harness and a leash. It is not recommended to buy a collar for a cat - it's still not a dog, but an animal that is graceful, capricious, with rather weak neck muscles. But a harness for cats - just what you need.

A harness is a special device consisting of two connected straps. One of them is fastened on the neck of the animal, the other on the stomach. Between the shoulder blades of a cat, dressed in such outfits, there is a ringlet, to which the leash clings. In general, a harness is a very convenient thing: you can walk with a pet, and you do not have to worry that he will break free from his hands and run away. It is important only to choose it correctly, and then to accustom the cat to new sensations.

The harness for cats is made, usually from cotton or nylon. These materials are soft enough and light, do not cause discomfort and a sense of heaviness. But the leather straps may seem too heavy to the pet. Leash is also better to choose nylon. Its length should be at least a couple of meters. By the way, you can use leashes designed for walking small dogs.

Before you put a cat on a harness, you have to do the preparatory work with the darling. Do not pull the strap by force: these animals are very self-sufficient and do not like to limit their freedom. Let the cat get used to the leash: sniff it, will see it for several days at its usual places, for example, near the beloved litter. When the introductory stage is completed, try gently putting the harness on the animal. The first reaction can be different, down to desperate attempts to escape from the "harness". If the cat's harness causes aggression and nervous behavior, try distracting your pet with your favorite treat or soothing with gentle stroking. The first time should be short. The most important thing here is to remove the harness when the cat has completely calmed down.

Then within a few days, again, put on an animal strap, so that the cat gets used to it, could move freely, practically not responding to a new "ammunition." The harness for cats should become something of an unchanging attribute for walking. For exemplary behavior, be sure to encourage the pet with food and play. Punishments and screams should be deleted.

In the next step, you can add a leash to the harness. Walk with the cat around the house in this form. Try not to pull the pet behind him, and give him the freedom of movement. And when your "student" understands why this is all started, try to call her gently, drawing you where you need to.

So, the contact is established, and you can go on your first walk. Remember one more important point: a cat's harness is a great way to find a pet if it suddenly gets lost. After all, on the strap you can write or knock out his nickname, name and phone number of the owner.
