What are the side effects of vaccination against diphtheria?

This disease is caused by infection. Diphtheria is characterized by an inflammatory process of the upper respiratory tract and skin (mainly in the places of wounds and cuts). The disease can have quite dangerous consequences: in the worst case, the entire cardiovascular and nervous systems are affected. Diphtheria is transmitted by airborne droplets and is especially difficult for unvaccinated people. Therefore, most doctors insist on the need to get vaccinated on time. It is mandatory and is done at the district clinic. The essence of vaccination is that after it is carried out in the body, antibodies are being developed that will subsequently protect you from diphtheria.

Vaccination of children
Inoculations to the child are done several times. The very first - when the baby turns three months old, the remaining three injections should be done with a 45-day interval before the child turns a year old. The next inoculation from diphtheria should be done immediately before entering school. Then the drug is administered regularly every ten years (done to maintain immunity). According to the rules, the injection is done in a specially equipped medical office, and a qualified nurse must conduct it. Compliance with these simple rules will minimize the risk of complications.

Vaccination of adults
Often the question of what side effects of vaccination against diphtheria are possible does not only concern the young parents. Vaccination is done not only for children, but also for adults. The difference is that the baby is injected with the medicine intramuscularly (usually in the gluteus muscle). Adult injections are placed under the scapula. The site of the injection has no effect on the effect of the vaccine.

Vaccination during pregnancy
Possible side effects of vaccination against diphtheria are especially occupied by pregnant women. This is understandable - they are responsible not only for themselves, but also for the life of the fetus. Experts agree that it is necessary to do the vaccination, however, the procedure should be carried out in advance (at least two months before the expected pregnancy). If there was an urgent need to vaccinate a woman "in position", then it is best to do this during the second trimester.

Side Effects of Diphtheria Vaccination
One of the possible side effects may be fever, pain in the place of inoculation, swelling, redness and itching of the skin. If you are sick with ARI, it is better to postpone the vaccination until the full recovery. Before you vaccinate a child, he should undergo a full medical examination, consult a neurologist. Ultimately, each parent decides whether his child will be vaccinated, however, experts advise not to neglect this procedure. After it was done so that the side effects of vaccination against diphtheria did not occur, a number of measures should be followed: first, avoid drafts and prolonged exposure to cold. Secondly, lovers of relaxation in a hot tub will have to spend some time with an ordinary shower. Refrain from visiting places where many people gather - this increases the risk of catching a virus or infection. If you follow these simple rules, then everything will go well.
