What are lollipops

Lollipops were very popular in our country during the Soviet Union. In those years, kids just loved these little fragrant sweets. Over time, many other confectionery products appeared. But for most of today's grandmothers and grandfathers the aroma of favorite candies has remained the most pleasant childhood memory.

Interesting to know

Today, the confectionery industry offers customers a huge number of different kinds of sweets. But for many, delicacies are still the favorite delicacy. Nevertheless, few know the true story of these small candied balls.

In Russia, they appeared in the XIX century. Then the candy caramel was produced only in the form of figurines (males or bears) on a stick. Children perceived them as delicious toys and received from parents as a reward for good behavior. First, candy from cooked sugar was made by hand. A little later they came up with a special machine for their production. It consisted of two drums, passing between them, the sweet mass took on a diverse form. Lunch Mondancier got its name in pre-revolutionary Russia. This was done in order to distinguish the candied colored balls from other sweet "ice cream". The unusual name of sweets is due to the heroine of the novels of the famous Dumas - the Duchess de Montpensier. So with a light hand of the famous writer, a new confectionery product appeared.

Benefit and harm

Lollipops, like any other candy of this type, are prepared by boiling sugar syrup. As a regulator of acidity, as a rule, citric acid is used. To give the products a certain taste, different spices were used before. Today, caramel flavor is given with food additives in the form of essences or synthetic ingredients. Despite its fairly high nutritional value (377 kilocalories), lollipops are considered harmful to the human body product. This is facilitated by two main ingredients:

  1. Sugar. Remaining for a long time in the oral cavity, it is an excellent nutrient medium for bacteria, which in the course of their life secrete acid. It is she who destroys the tooth enamel, causing caries. In addition, sugar negatively affects various metabolic processes. A large number of such sweets can lead to allergies and even diabetes.
  2. Additives. Nowadays these are mostly synthetic substances, many of which can not be considered absolutely harmless.

At the same time, the candy caramels benefit, lifting the mood. The reason for this are simple sugars, which cause the human body to produce serotonin (a hormone of happiness). In addition, do not forget about the significant energy value of these small sweets.

Customer Reviews

Montpensier - sweets, which in the days of the former USSR enjoyed great popularity. They were usually sold not in bulk, but in special packages. This is how the favorite sweets were remembered for the majority of buyers. Sometimes small caramels were produced in the form of balls without sprinkling. This created certain inconveniences for the consumer. To get the candy out of the package, it had to be broken off from the whole piece, stuck together as a result of long-term storage. In addition, lollipops, sprinkled with sugar, were produced.

In this form, the outward appearance was more attractive. Despite the fact that the candy sometimes had the wrong shape, they were always in demand and for a long time did not lie on the shelves of stores. Today, the Montpensier is different from those that were before. They partly lost their former popularity. The main reason for this was the composition of the product. In addition to sugar, to give a special taste, manufacturers began to add various chemical flavors. As practice shows, this negatively affects the consumer demand. Nevertheless, some sometimes still pay attention to the sweet "ice cream", trying with their help to remember the distant happy childhood.

The price of pleasure

Now in grocery stores you can again meet candy drops in a tin can. This is how they remembered the mass buyer since the pre-revolutionary times.

Today these products are produced in boxes of different sizes and shapes. Manufacture of such sweets are engaged in many domestic confectionery factories. For example, NP Confil produces square, rectangular and round packages in which products are packaged in the form of diamonds, balls or "tablets". And the weight of the product is very different: 55, 60, 65, 100 or 120 grams. On this depends and its price. So, a square box with fruit candies, sprinkled with sugar, will cost lovers of sweet in 100 rubles. This is quite a bit, considering the excellent taste and excellent quality of the product. In addition, our people have learned not to throw away the packaging, but use it in the farm to store various trifles. This is another plus in favor of the famous candy.
