Wet felting, or how to create flowers from wool

Wool is traditionally associated with warm plaids, cozy sweaters and a cup of hot raspberry tea in the winter cold. But there is one kind of needlework, which allows you to create from it stunning items of decorations and decor. And he is called wet felting.

Basics of technology

Wet felting is a surprisingly simple process: a preschooler will be able to cope with it. The main thing to learn and correctly apply all the advice on the technique of execution.

What do we need? The first and the main thing is natural wool. To create objects from it, different colors are needed, but the coloring should be of high quality, so that the paint does not flow during work. The second element is soapy water. Prepare it simply: half a liter of hot water should be mixed with two tablespoons of liquid soap or dry, shredded on a large grater. Also, gauze and a film are needed, into which fragile objects ("with bubbles") are wrapped. And the last basic elements are a bamboo mat and a washing board.

Wet felting from the wool is carried out as follows. The wool is divided into thin strips and laid diagonally with the first thin layer on the oilcloth. The second is already stacked vertically. Try to ensure that between the layers there are no gaps. In total it is necessary to lay out six layers. After the required amount is done, check the cloth for gaps, gently pressing the material. Found a flaw, fill it with wool.

! Tip: in order to achieve the best result, the coat should be laid out on a scale!

Then the prepared layers "hide" with gauze, and the time of "hygienic" procedures comes. Sponge cautiously applied soap solution to the coat. Wet felting implies that the canvas is first exposed to water, and then squeezed out of the material. The latter is carried out with the help of hands and mat. First, the cloth is squeezed between the palms, and then, laying it on the bamboo mat, gently twist them together. After removing the water in this way, the cloth rubs against the washing board to compact the material.

At the very end, the resulting linen should be rinsed to remove a soap solution from it and dry it.

Wet felting - flowers made from wool

This kind of needlework allows you to create not only objects for the soul, but also quite practical things. For example, you can decorate a hat or a coat by using a wet felting of wool. Let's try to create poppies.

We will need practically the same set that was proposed above with some additions.

So, wool is needed in the following colors: orange, red, black and green. From the orange color rounded petals (three pieces) are laid out, so that they overlap with sharp ends. Above we lay a couple of layers of red color, yielding a little over the area to the orange layer. The same way is laid and black hair.

After the drawing is laid out, we use wet felting. The flowers made in this technique are very picturesque, the main thing is to observe all the rules of the instruction. When the workpiece is ready, it needs to be shaped. This is done with the help of special tools or ... children's drumsticks of different sizes.

The flower should be deepened in the middle and wrap the petals. Then we fix the obtained form. Many needlewomen recommend a solution of salvitosis (one teaspoon for two hundred milliliters of water).

After the petals were created, roll the ball out of the green wool, dry it and attach it with a thick thread to the petals. Mac is ready.

Try wet felting. This process will entice you and your children, but this is a great way to spend rainy evenings, which are so rich in the coming autumn.
