Weapons for sports shooting: types and description

Sports shooting is becoming more popular. And beginners sometimes find it difficult to understand right away what's what. They have many questions, which we will try to answer now.

Kinds of sports shooting

Now, the Olympic sport is the stand shooting on a moving target. A shotgun with a charge of shot is used. Sporting is a very popular form of this sport. It is in the middle-of-the-road environment that it is called skeet shooting. The athlete must hit the flying target, which, as a rule, is a clay dish of orange color.

The second popular form: bullet shooting. This is a sport shooting from pneumatic weapons, usually rifled. From a large-caliber or small-caliber rifle, air rifle or pistol, the athlete must hit a static or moving target in the dash. Similar exercises are also present in the program of the Olympic Games.

Recently there was another kind of sports shooting: varmiting. It originated in the USA. Used rifled weapons with powerful optics and heavy barrel, designed to minimize vibration. The goal of the shooter is to hit the target at a long distance.

Requirements for weapons

Various requirements are applied to the weapons used, which also depend on the type of stand used (round or trench). In general, the fire is at a distance of 20 m, but the distance can reach 25-27 m. Therefore, when shooting at moving targets, any well-targeted hunting weapon with a caliber of 12 to 20 and even less can be used. Firing accuracy is considered sufficient if at least half of the pellets hit a circle with a diameter of 75 cm, while shooting is conducted from a distance of 35 m, and the dispersion is more or less uniform. Excessive accuracy can only interfere, since the slightest mistake in aiming can lead to a miss.

Hunter's Weapon

Thus, for sport shooting, a hunting rifle, produced by the Tula arms factory, can be used, for example, double-barreled 16-gauge horizontally coupled and 12-caliber with vertically paired trunks. Sports shooting with smoothbore weapons will benefit hunters who want to improve their skills in the off-season.

As a rule, a 12-caliber rifle is used on the trench stand, since the first shot must be made at a sufficiently large distance (about 30 m). At the same time, a sufficient dispersion of the fraction also plays a role, which conceals the errors allowed by the shooter in aiming.

The weight in choosing a weapon is very important. Few guns weighing less than three kilograms are not suitable, because with constant shooting after several dozen shots, the recoil becomes very sensitive for the athlete. In view of discomfort, this leads to increased fatigue and even fear of a shot. This can greatly worsen the results of shooting.

Weapons for sport shooting

The question of choosing a weapon invariably confounds any beginning shooter. Practice shows that even if the choice of a gun is assisted by an experienced athlete, only in rare cases the option turns out to be ideal. Even a very good and expensive gun may not be suitable because of the structure of the body. The number of shots made during the training can reach up to several hundred, which in itself is tiring, so the weapon should ideally fit the anatomical features of the athlete. In the first few months of classes, no matter how expensive the gun was bought, it will be necessary to adjust it, stitch the butt with the help of a plane, which, of course, changes the look of the weapon not for the better.

The first weapon for sports shooting should not be from the highest price category, but not the cheapest - on this opinion the experienced shooters converge. To begin with, it is worth to take a gun in the range of 2-4 thousand euros. They can become a model of one of the European firms: Beretta, Fabarma, Browning, Antonio Zoli, Caesar Guerini. They are quite ergonomic and have a long service life. Both rifled and smooth-bore guns "Benelli" for sport shooting are also ideal, because this company specializes exclusively on models for sports.

From the budget category, the most distinguished are the Russian IZh-39, IZh-27m, IZh-27 Sporting modifications and a number of others that are suitable for beginners. However, since the price of even budgetary weapons is still not 2-3 thousand rubles, experienced shooters advise to begin training on a rifle, leased. In shooting clubs you can try different models and choose the most suitable option, and in general get acquainted with the difficulties of training and decide whether or not you want to go further.

Pistols

Since ergonomics is one of the most important indicators for sporting weapons, the choice of a pistol is no less a difficult task than the choice of a gun. Sport shooting from pneumatic weapons is often accompanied by microtraumas of the hands (corns and wounds inflicted by the protruding parts of the pistol), since at the outset the shooter can use not quite suitable models, such as the "Viking" (pneumatic model of the Yarygin pistol) and other budget options From pneumatic copies of firearms.

Weapons for sports shooting (pistols including) has an ergonomic wooden handle (or butt), which reduces the load on the hands, and the likelihood of injury. In addition, the tree can be treated in case of any inconsistencies to anatomical features, and polymers - no. But the sporting sight is not an indicator, it can be put on any weapon. Also, a sports pistol in front of conventional pneumatics has one more important advantage: the device USM (shock-trigger mechanism), which provides for the adjustment of the trigger.

Sports pistols have one common feature, which also distinguishes them from ordinary pneumatic pistols: their appearance, which can be described as something steampunk-pirated. And, of course, it is worth remembering about the price, which is an order of magnitude higher.

What to choose a newcomer?

Despite the fact that high-class sportsmen prefer the weapons of European firms (Feinwerkba, Steyr, Walther), domestic sports pistols also deserve attention, as, for example, IZH-46, produced since 1988 and used both in training and competition, or Its updated version is MP-672. Also considered suitable MP-651K-23 - a modification of the "Cornet" for sports shooting.

Hunting and sports weapons - what's the difference?

Although shooting can be used for hunting rifles, they have significant differences with sports guns . This is due to the narrow specialization of the latter. Rifled firearms for sport shooting are similar to hunter weapons only in their system. The sports rifle is always 12-caliber, it has more weight, strengthened chokes, and the handle is orthopedic. All this is due to the fact that weapons have different purposes. However, to say that a hunting rifle is not suitable for bench shooting is the same as saying that an ordinary car can not ride a racing track. If a person is a hunter, and his goal is training and improving the results (again, for hunting), then there is no point in buying special sports weapons.

About documents

It should be remembered that rifled weapons for shooting sports can be purchased only if there are relevant documents. This is required by law. It limits the number of persons entitled to carry weapons. Short-rifled rifled weapons for sport shooting (pistols) also fall into this category. To buy it (both short-barreled and long-barreled) it will be necessary to submit documents. The papers must testify that the buyer is a high-class athlete with a certificate for exactly the kind of sport where this weapon will be used. Also, the possibility of buying is from those who previously owned smooth-bore firearms.

Care of the weapon

Frequent shooting at the stand can adversely affect the state of the weapon. In the event that a light gun is loaded with reinforced or even medium charges, it will quickly loosen up in the place where the trunks are attached to the shoe. The weapon for sports shooting is made of high-quality metal. Qualitative assembly and fitting of parts will give a good service life even with increased load. If you keep your weapons in order, clean and lubricate, and also in time to eliminate the slightest malfunction in the mechanism, the gun will last for a long time.
