Want to save on food - you need to build a cellar!

If before a rare private house did without a cellar, now many have already forgotten what kind of building it is and what functions it is called upon to perform. Historically, the cellar was one of the most important economic buildings, without which it was practically impossible to preserve the summer harvest until next year. Due to the year-round wide assortment in modern stores, the need to make supplies for the winter: various pickles and jams - today the majority of the population is absent. Of the most urgent need, this, rather, has become a hobby: for example, a fashionable gift is a miniature jar of hand-made jam. Gradually, the cellar became associated exclusively with old village houses, meanwhile this extremely useful utility room can serve a good service for a modern person.

If before the construction of the cellar occurred simultaneously with the construction of the main house, in our time it is necessary to think about the competent completion of existing premises. Conveniently, when it is possible to walk into the cellar directly from the main house, for example from the kitchen, it is true that it is not always possible to do it architecturally in this way. If the cellar under the house is not needed, it can be arranged under the summer kitchen, garage or other structure. The main thing in this is that the underground location in a heated room removes the need for additional insulation, so that even in the frosts in the cellar, the air temperature will not drop below zero.

Any new construction or overhaul is advisable to begin with the development of an architectural design, planning decision and compilation of an estimate. In the case of a cellar device, the main task that designers need to solve is the location of the cellar beyond the reach of groundwater. When the groundwater is high enough, it is necessary to provide additional reinforcement of the walls by means of waterproofing. To do this, often used layers of ruberoid, pasted with bituminous mastic. Pre- brick wall for waterproofing must be covered with cement plaster. If the expected groundwater level is above the cellar floor mark, it is advisable to make an additional layer of fat clay 15-20 cm thick to the waterproofing. This will give an additional protective layer from the strong head of groundwater and will increase the service life of the roofing material. Similarly, waterproofing the floor, and the place of joints with the walls, too, need to be glued with a ruberoid.

In principle, the cellar need not be buried, i.e. Be below ground level. It can be done terrestrially, though, then it will occupy additional space on the site, in contrast to the buried version, usually located under the existing structures. In addition, the terrestrial cellar must be further strengthened from the effects of atmospheric phenomena: precipitation and temperature fluctuations. On the other hand, a rather large pit is needed for the buried version, which is associated with serious volumes of earth and waterproofing works on the site. All this in a complex increases the cost of construction, which is not always desirable. Thus, before proceeding to the installation of the cellar, you need to determine its functional purpose, type and amount of money and effort that you are willing to spend on it, and only after drawing up a detailed list of works go to construction.
