Vyazma: sights and history

Almost in the center of the Smolensk lands is a wonderful cozy town, a significant transport and economic hub. This is Vyazma. The sights and history of this place will not leave you indifferent. Historical background

Even in the first half of the thirteenth century, Vyazma was first mentioned in manuscripts. Since that time the city has a rich and rich history. Constantly being a perceptible obstacle on the way of enemies to the east, he has long been known as a real hero and is famous for his defenders. In the war with Napoleon, in two World War II there were serious battles and the strongest units were deployed. Local heroes-liberators performed their feats here, in memory of them in Vyazma, many monuments and memorial structures.

Vyazma: sightseeing of the city

As for interesting places for tourists to visit, then there are quite a lot of them. Vyazma presents its sights to everyone, and with great pleasure. There is a large number of temples and monasteries, each of which is distinguished by its beauty and uniqueness. Thus, in the first half of the seventeenth century a church was built, called Odigitrievskaya. It is crowned not by domes, but by three elongated snow-white tents. This temple is justly proud of not only Vyazma. Photo of it is easy to find on souvenir postcards of the city. At the turn of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries a cathedral of the Holy Trinity was built in Vyazma - a large and beautiful temple, which once visited the rulers and famous people of our lands. Of interest is the tower, called Spasskaya. Previously, it was an element of a local fortress, and now it's all that has escaped from a defensive structure. Visiting Vyazma, do not pass by the local history museum. There you will find a lot of fun and cognitive. This, of course, is not the worthiness of Moscow or St. Petersburg. However, memorabilia of small towns are sometimes more often remembered and sink into the soul.

What else is famous for Vyazma?

Attractions - it's interesting, but the city has more than to brag. Firstly, they are famous writers M. Bulgakov and A. Griboedov, whose homeland is Vyazemshchina. Few in the post-Soviet space did not read the world-famous "Master and Margarita" and "Woe from Wit". Perhaps, in the characters of their works, writers reflected the characters of some fellow countrymen they knew.

Vyazemsky gingerbread is almost a visiting card of the city. These cakes are heroes of many proverbs, poems and even songs. Local craftsmen had a unique recipe for gingerbread, which made them delicious and at the same time very strong (felt by the expiration date). Earlier in Vyazma eight (and according to some information and more) factories for their manufacture were simultaneously working. For a while the production of gingerbread in the city was discontinued. Today you can bring home a memorable product of local bakeries as a delicious souvenir.
