Vertebrobasilar insufficiency

Probably, there is no person in the world who does not know or heard about such a problem as osteochondrosis. Unfortunately, very many people know about it not by hearsay. One of the rather serious complications of osteochondrosis is vertebro-basilar insufficiency. However, this is no longer a complication, but a concomitant disease. This affliction lies in the fact that it usually becomes the main factor in the disturbance of cerebral blood supply. In addition, he also gives the patient considerable pain and considerable discomfort.

The reasons for the occurrence of vertebro-basilar insufficiency may be different. First of all, this is atherosclerosis of the vessels, usually such as vertebral veins. Quite often, this cause is found among patients who are in old age. It is these people often on the walls of the vessels accumulate so-called plaques, which significantly reduce the capacity of the vessel, thereby preventing the normal nutrition of the brain. Also vertebro-basilar insufficiency can occur as a result of the formation of thrombi in the corresponding vessels, and especially where the atherosclerotic plaques accumulate . It is also possible that blood clots come from other areas, such as the heart cavity, especially if there are concomitant disorders. It happens that after any injuries of the cervical region, including inaccurate operations, there is a stratification of the inner covering of the wall of the artery passing in the region of the spine. This is one of the causes of the violation of the blood supply to the brain. Another factor is the formation of several minor narrowed sites in the middle arteries. It happens quite rarely, but, nevertheless, these constrictions do not allow to pass a sufficient amount of blood. Often, the reduction in brain power is strongly influenced by the so-called stealing syndrome. It arises due to the narrowing of the subclavian artery, which supplies the blood of the hand. When the hands have to have a strong physical load, little blood passes through the pathological artery, and in order to replenish the necessary amount, the blood begins to flow from those arteries whose job is to supply the brain. Thus there is vertebrobasilar insufficiency.

Manifestations of this disease occur gradually. It often happens that the patient does not even pay attention to them and gradually gets used to them. The main symptoms are frequent attacks of dizziness, which are accompanied by sensations of nausea. Also to the list of symptoms include various violations of the vestibular apparatus, the presence of constant noise or any other extraneous sounds in the ears, fog, flies in the eyes. Often, patients have fairly severe headaches, usually in the nape of the neck. They also complain of fatigue and general weakness. Dissipation, memory impairment and decreased attention can also speak of a disease such as vertebrobasilar insufficiency.

Treatment of this disease can be different, depending on specific cases. Drug treatment is usually reduced to the prescription of drugs that can dilate blood vessels. Although, if the reason for the appearance of vertebrobasilar insufficiency is mechanical compression of the artery with bones, then drugs can hardly be helped here. In this case, a rather effective method for today is manual therapy. Massage sessions are also very good, but only if a knowledgeable specialist does it. In any case, in the presence of these symptoms, it is first necessary to contact a neurosurgeon who can recommend the right treatment, including massage.
