Tulips: transplant and preparation for the next season

It's wonderful to look out the window in the spring and enjoy the riot of colors, incredible tenderness and beauty at a time when tulips bloom! Transplanting at the right time, in the right place and literate way - is the guarantee of regular luxurious flowering of these garden flowers in your garden. So, let's look at each of these questions in more detail.

Tulip transplantation: when is it better to do this?

To choose the most suitable time for transplanting tulips, it is necessary to take into account the fact that their growth and development take place in two stages: first the underground part develops (bulbs and roots), and then above-ground (leaves and, most importantly, flowers). Tulips, which are transplanted in autumn, will feel most comfortable, and if certain requirements are met, they will blossom in the spring, because in autumn even young plants will have time to form a bulb, grow roots and only then will be frozen until the spring.

So, if you notice that after the flowering, the leaves of the tulips have turned yellow more than half, and the stem becomes soft, it's time to start preparing for the transplant. This happens, as a rule, at the end of June. At this time, the bulbs are excavated and stored for storage in a dry place, shaded from sunlight.

Choose a place for transplantation

Tulips, transplanted to a site with loose, fertile soil and good lighting, where there is no waterlogging and water accumulation, will surely please you with abundant flowering every season. However, it should be remembered that the tulip bulbs feel comfortable in the same place without transplantation no more than 2-2,5 years.

Tulips: transplant and care for planting material

October is coming. This means that it's time to tackle directly the process of planting the bulbs of tulips to a new location. Dug out bulbs in the summer, they sort out, cull the shrunken (usually their number does not reach 10%). There are many folk recipe how to prepare the bulbs for planting, so that they are not afraid of diseases and pests, for example, soak the bulbs in a solution of potassium permanganate or hold it in a sealed bag with garlic teeth for some time.

It is very important to choose the right depth for bulbs planting. Tulips, transplanted to too deep a depth, will suffer from a lack of light and air and may even die. Experienced gardeners recommend planting bulbs at a depth equal to the triple height of the bulb. With the onset of the first frosts, you can hide the area where the tulips were planted, with a layer of hay.

As you can see, the process of transplantation of tulips is not as complex as it seems at first glance, although it requires some attention. But the result is definitely worth it, because tulips are a symbol of the coming of spring, the awakening of nature, one of the first garden flowers that please us after a long cold winter. Surround them with care and attention in the autumn, and next season your flower bed will necessarily play bright colors!
